Chain or kennel what's your opinion
Wondering of I should chain my dogs up or kennel. The reason why is as most people say but I have never had it happen if the coon crosses a fence they will tree on the fence, that's when you have them in a kennel and they said if you chain them up it won't happen. So which ones better chain or kennel.
chain or kennel
I don't know where you live in WV but in my county you can't chain dogs. They call it a tethering law. I have never had problems with dogs treeing on fences other than pups that haven't figured everything out yet.

one of the best dogs i ever owned treed a fence post, thats why i ended up owniing him. people that had trial on him didn't get him because of it. they bought a $5000 dog and talked trash about how sorry he was till we drawed out together in a hunt and ole sorry fence treer destroyed big money in only 40 min.
i put mine on ground cable runs inside of kennels if they climb. fence climbing can be deadly for a dog while out hunting, give me the fence tree'r once in while, everytime.
Chains give them alot more room than any pen you could afford to build .. and you can move a chain to fresh ground . A chain will also keep a dog from getting bad habits ... you can get hold of them and they know it ... alot of dogs raised in pens will just run to the back of the pen and ignore correction or not get touched enough and you end up with those young dogs that you can't even catch out of their own pen.
Nothing beats a chain from the point of view of the good it does the dog .
The only thing kennels are better for ... are for impressing your friends or buyers if you peddle pups ... the dog aint impressed with being cramped in a pen and standing on concrete all day with the same view his whole life.
i use both but i like chains for coon hounds and kennels for my beagles.
I prefer a chain and I think the dogs do too. I kennel them when they are in heat or with pups.

Kennels..it is a cleaner way to keep hounds....but at some point early in there lives should be chained or gang chained to teach them restraint and control.I have self feeders but prefer to feed them daily in it-1 to keep out birds/rodents-2 to look over and handle for short periods every day. When it rains or snows dogs can be a muddy mess. Not against it-just dont prefer it.I have had more escapes from chain/swivel/snap failure than kennel failures.

chickens live and die and lay eggs in cages so small they can't turn around ... with no problems , unless that chicken could talk.
A kennel is only clean for the half hour a day after you wash it .. the rest of the time it's coated with urine that runs across it and their poop that doesn't dry out and quit stinking like it does with above ground kennels or on a chain.
There are reasons some folks prefer kennels , but it's not because it's better or more sanitary for the dogs ... I have both and use both as needed .
I think every dog should be kept on a chain until they are about 2 yrs old .It helps them develop into a smarter more confident all around dog .

A chain don't teach em' how to lead , that's silly ... it would sure be nice if that were true , but it isn't.
A kennel will get nasty if not cleaned daily,,during wet seasons some dogs will make a mess on a chain........ A well built kennel is alot safer than any chain,.......A dog will get loose somehow at times even with a new chain, swivel, snap.I do like to put my dogs on a chain in the summer time and I stake them so they can get under an old barn to stay cooler and they seem to enjoy it too...But most times if I ,m away for a few hours I will put them in a kennel off the ground.I have a 20 X 40 chain link divided into 4, 10 x 20 dirt runs. These pens are too much to keep clean, especially grass.I have recently converted a 7 x 26 partial single wide mobile home into 3 dog runs with 51/4 treated deck boards for the floor.I used the steel 3/8 thick, 2x4 horse panels, all is welded with a metal roof....The dogs are cleaner off the ground...but I maintain them daily....Some dogs will get aggressive from being on a chain too...In my opinion too much bad can come from a dog being on a chain....You never know what may come onto your property and attack your dog tied on a chain...jmo

My dogs are in kennels. They are cleaned daily and my dogs are all trained to go sit in their house while I am cleaning the kennel.
The only time I chain my dogs is when they are young because it really helps in teaching them to lead.

i have a privacy fenced back yard. the dogs are free to run in it. at one time they would dig out if game was near, i.e., cats and squirrels. i put an elec. fence up and in no time they stopped digging out. i also have a coop type pen that's 5' x 15' to put one in for whatever reason.

i prefer a kennel to keep my dogs in. cleaner, healthier & safer. i do have 20 foot cables i tie dogs out that i am not hunting much in good weather during the day & put them up at night or if i'm leaving. i dont like to put one in the kennel & just leave it there. they need to get out & lounge around in the sun or shade. my dogs are all pets & i treat them that way.

I have pens only have 4.no other reason to have more than 4 dogs im my mind..If you live on a good track of land build you some nice big pens.mine are 15 yards by 10 yard pens nice and open and not couped up like some pens people build.each one has a concrete slab 6ft by 6ft so the house and other stuff will stay out of the mud..
