good question

Dad and I have been wondering the same thing. We hunt southern richland ashland and knox county and it has been a struggle all season. Talked with a lot of people and everybody is struggling. My biggest concern is very few small coon are being killed. I have yet to kill a kit from this year.

I agree the coon we did kill at the begin of season all but one was bigger coon. During summer we did tree some kitten coon. Not sure if the drought got them or what but haven't seen a small coon or any coon for that matter along the road dead or alive.

Treed on 5 dens last night. No real good tracks and dens. Usually been going over 7-800 yards. Been the same way for about a week 10 days. The rapid weather change may have something to do with it. I believe that if it warms back up a bit or stays cold for a week or so they will be back on the prowl. JMO.

Between the tough summer and all that were getting killed in early season just wait next yr will prob be worse. i have seen pics and guys talking about killing 60 plus! My question is why kill more than 1 or 2 a week they aint worth nothing save them for the next night

belly up

they kill them because they think it makes their dog better and some are into just numbers. there also are some that just want to kill every coon that they tree or find up a tree.

Now I know they are not all being shot or trapped because alot of people around here are having this problem.

One of my favorite hunting spots was divided into two sections. It was about 200 acres. The left side was mountains and the right side was a big swamp. From the year 2000 to about 2010 I hunted my old Bluetick female there. She allways treed more coons on the right side in the big swamp. Every now and then we would have a good night on the left side but the population was just so much better over on the right side of the property when we turned loose over there. It was like that for 10 years. In late 2009 early 2010, I retired the ole dog and bought Bubba, the walker dog I owned for a couple years. Everything changed. He was completey opposite from my bluetick. He treed WAY more coons on the left side in the mountains than he did over to the right side of the property in that big swamp. Its strange how dogs are different like that and can give you a perception of a hunting spot. LOL
