The problem

The real problem isn't the statement it's actually how u perceive the statement. And that goes for most discussions on here!

?????

I have really never seen a loner get scratched but have seen them kick much booty.

Rule 7* there's a star there for a reason... If you remember the rules were a little different when big de won it in 2009 compared to now. Sorry my mistake, and yes the rules were changed due to the "loner" and I do hunt a loner myself, so now ya got something to talk about!

If loners are getting scratched then I feel sorry for the hound and handler. If my hound got by itself on a few coon I would love for someone to attempt to scratch me.

Havent seen a new rule book but you missed a part that was there everyone else would have to tree 2 singles to claim a dog is working against the cast. This being said this is why you dont see dogs get scratched for it. If i tree two coons on you i dont care what your dog does you are beat..

You got to use a little common sence along with the rules, as well as sportsman like conduct.Lets be honest look hard enough and good enough you can minus or scratch them all.The problem in todays hunts is more handlers trying to win instead of letting the hound win. jmo

LONER

NO LONERS SHOULD NOT BE SCRATCHED BUT I HAVE SEEN SOME DOGS GET WAYOUT OF POCKET AND HOLD UP THE CAST WITHOUT BARKING OR OUT OF HEARING,DOGS CAN BE LONERS BUT SHOULD NOT LEAVE COMPLETLY OUT OF AREA.JMO
I HUNT WITH A GUY THAT HAS DOGS JUST BEEE-LINE IN ONE DIRECTION AND WILL PASS UP GOOD HUNTING TIMBER JUST TO GET BY THEMSELVES,NOT WHAT I CALL A GOOD HUNTING DOG JUST WHAT I CALL A WEEKEND NT.HUNT DOG..NOT ANY PLEASURE TO HUNT WITH.
I ALSO HUNT WITH A GUY THAT HAS A VERY INDEPENDENT DOG THAT HUNTS WITH OTHER DOGS THAT IS VERY ACCURATE AND WILL SPLIT TREE TO HAVE THE COON IF THE OTHERS MISS THE COON THAT IS MY IDEA OF BEING A LONER ALSO AND IS A PLEASURE TO HUNT,HE CAN GET BY HIMSELF ALSO BUT DOESN'T GET OUT OF POCKET.JUST MY WAY OF THINKING ..

Rule 7 doesn't offer any kind of provision for scratching a dog, nothing spelled out or even implied.

ther ya go, ole slick ain't concerned with '' common sense or sportsmanship'' at no time.

Posted by jabrown on 12-12-2012 06:55 PM:

How does anyone get "scratchable offense" out of rule 7? All it does, or ever did, was open up the strike points for a dog that wasn't standing on his head.

Regardless of what you all say or think, I believe you all took my "quote" from another post out of context. My argument falls along the lines of what Steve Pickett said. You can ALL call me ole slick or whatever you want. I as well as Billy did not have the rules in front of us as we posted, so does that make me or Billy less of a person? If you are that concerned with it, simply flip the card over in the woods and show/explain the ruling. Don't we all have access to the card in the woods? Point taken?

So, until you've drawn me (old slicky) count on your fingers and toes how many times I've screwed or even better yet, scratched someone because I can count them on 2 fingers and both circumstances were more than scratch able offenses. If you'd like to hear about them, shoot me a PM!

So who's "ole slicky" now? Hah.

Glad you have had fun with someone who is always on here trying to HELP others understand and interpret rules, I made a mistake!

joe

Seems to me that most guys on here are looking for somebody or something to attack! Its usually the attacker that lacks the intelligence. Joe is a real nice guy and made a legit mistake and now it turns into a post about what a slick guy he is. Well thats not the case and all of you know it all UKC heroes need to get off the guys back! Sad thing about the majority of these Know It Alls is they only go to 2 or 3 hunts a year and they cry about cheaters when they do go and most generally they didnt get cheated they just didnt know the rules!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh come on..... talk about thin skinned......
You made a comment that left more than a few scratching their heads. I've read enough of your stuff to know you couldn't think hunting alone was a scratchable offense but it seemed to read that way. As for attacking you, calling you a slick handler or even inferring such, I sure don't think I or jabrown ever did. Get a grip.

If you did any reading at all behind those little glasses of yours, you'd quickly SEE I never mentioned either of your names or even referenced either of your posts. THICK SKIN ROCKS!

....and before you go milling through my posts again, I will be sure to let you know that "you all" was intended to mean that you, Jim, or anyone else who reads it, can call me whatever you like, whether ya said it before on here or not, I don't care!

If i offended you im sorry, i dont know you .I have been comp hunting for years in nc ,and was referring to my ex.

Posted by HuckFinn on 12-15-2012 12:14 AM:

Well, I have no experience but from what I read, winning depends on how well you argue and how well you handle. Are we really out to discover which dog is best? The comp dogs I've hunted with babbled like lunatics, treed ghosts and, worst of all, sounded like yard dogs on halloween.

However, the pups I've bought from Tim Ball were out of comp lines and were all real good.
