Did Bert Oneys well known Vanzants Sam go back to Bluetick blood? Seems I heard that once just wondered for my pedigree history, thanks!

Sure, it's been a while since I have looked but I think Sam's grandsire was Mountain Music Blue, who was a foundation sire in both blueticks and English. He was registered back in the days all bluetick's were English.

The first really good English hound I ever owned (and trained) was a redtick female I called Tania that was a double granddaughter of Vansant's Sam. Tania was a natural I coon hunted by herself at 12 months old. She just naturally went out and treed a coon the first time I took her hunting. Times were tough back then, if Tania had not treed me some coon for me to sell the fur, I would have been real hungary. It was a good thing coon prices were high, I got a $20 average and real big coon sold for $40. The fur money kept me going in the winters back then. I still have a picture of Tania on my wall. She was something special.

ole sam sure put his mark on the english breed and there are not many that do not go back to sam. alot of people told me he was the best hound they ever watched go! i had a pup that sam was the grandsire of and man he had that loud crazy mouth that sam had from those who hunted with sam told me.

I hunted with Roland Dickey in 90 or 91. He owned GrNt Evans Red Joe and GrNt Campbells Blue Grass Amos. Joe's Dam was Murder Ck Blue. He said she was the best track dog he was ever in the woods with. She goes back to Sam on top side.
