muzzle loader question ?

i'v always been a cap & ball guy, never used one of these new muzzle loaders but i got one.

i'm useing a 200 grain sabot. i'v set my back sight as far back as it goes & still shooting about 1 1/2 inchs high at 20 yards sighting it in.

my question is. if i go to a heavier grain bullet say 250 gr will that bring my group down lower on the target ??

That is the same powder and bullet combo I use and Im getting unbelievable groups with mine but Im using a scope
I would try shooting out a little further say 75 - 100 yds and see where it hits
One thing I have learned when sighting in Clean it after every shot One wet patch and one dry patch

Im wondering if you arent going the wrong way with your sight adjustment. The rear sight usually elevates when moved to the rear? The higher the rear sight the higher your point of impact, lower the rear sight and your rifle will shoot lower.

1 1-2inch high would be fine with me.Id shoot it at 50 and see what it does.Either way a 2 inch group will equal a dead deer.Let the smoke roll.

If it is legal to scope the rifle in your state do that . If not try shooting it out say 75 yards and see where it hits,,Might be dead on ,,If you happy there try a 100 yard target to see if its low there,,, kinda hard for me to tell you how to do it ,but thats what i would do. lol ,, I own 3 ,50 cal. T/Cs they are all i use now ,, My centerfires are just setting in the safe . Love that old smoke smell , Good Luck.

look in to a savage ML-II, google it, smokeless muzzle loader, thats what i use now. clean burning, shoot without cleaning, accurate, shoot farther. you have to order them because they only make them like once a year.

Matt, after the 2012 production run, they will not be making them any longer. They were discontinued in 2011 but demand brought them to do a production run at the beginning of the year.

Drop your powder 10 grains and get a heavier bullet, will help to bring your group down for close range shots...the bullet is still on the rise at 20 yards with a 100 grains of powder and a light sabot that your using. I would go heavier than 250 as well and see what happens, but if your looking to shoot over 50 leave what you have and shoot that distance.

Yep ,You need to play with your powder charges to get your accuracy even ,,some guns won't shoot good with heavy charges,,A lot guys might be surprised ,but i've killed alot of deer with 70grains of black powder,in a 50 caliber. Good post Mr. Hollister

i tryed a 250 grain brought it down & grouped good but shot 2 inch's left. i went back to the 200 grain. 50 yards 2 inch's high dead center. this is as far as i have shot it. i'm going to use it next week in late muzzleloader season in ky. i hunt thickets & longest shots i'l take are 30 yards. after season i'l try different grain bullets & powder to really find out what works best with this gun. i'm useing two 50 grain pellets now. i'l get reguler powder so i can try different loads of powder with different bullets & put a scope on it for next year.

i have been useing a 45 calliber ky rifle roundball & 70 grain of powder till now. shooting it was like shooting a 22 rifle very acurate at 40 yards.

20 yards 1 1/2 inch's high. 50 yards 2 inch's high.
cva wolf rifle. i like this gun, short barrel, light weight, very easy to clean.

my brother is coming down from northern indiana. we havent hunted together for 20 years. we are going to peabody wma in western ky & camp for 3 or 4 days. i'l let ya know if we get a shot next week.
