the one man one vote, apparently there are more people in the blue areas than the reds, based on numbers and not geographic area, thus the outcome of this election or any for that matter...

The demographics of Pennsylvania are a bit confusing.

While it's a decent sized state, with a total population of around 13 million residents, 6 million of those live in the Philly area (Blue area in the East) and another 2 million in the Pittsburgh area (Blue county in SW). That's lots of people looking for entitlements.

So the electoral process in PA is generally determined by those in the big cites, as Philly goes, so does the rest of Pennsylvania...

I really wish we could just give Philly to New Jersey...

The county by county analysis is amazing. Wherever there is a large economic engine- cities and urban cores, or wherever there is higher education levels, then you see BLUE. Wherever you see lots of acreage with few people, RED!

now that is some funny stuff! anyone who believes that the higher education levels are in the cities and urban cores, must be partaking in some of colorado's new recreational grass!

One more reason to do away with the electoral process... it is accomplishing exactly the opposite of what it was intended to do.

look at statistical abstracts, census data for rates of hs graduation, college etc. the electoral college needs to go, but it does exactly what it was and is intended to do...

You're denying that? Do you ever read anything or look into things before opening your mouth? Not only is it true, it's backed by empirical data.

Instead of saying things that aren't true, come in here and explain how it accomplishes the opposite of what it was intended to do as it pertains to this election. I'll be waiting

If what you say is true i guess we can stop throwing away millions on those inner city schools that cant graduate 50% of their students, they are already the smart ones.
Anyone with a brain LEAVES the city, and most with an education dream of getting out.

I really don't like the electoral college system where winner takes all in most states.

How about breaking it down by congressional districts? Pennsylvania has 19 congressional districts.

If a candidate wins a district, give him that vote.

It would perhaps even things out a bit and let our voices be heard and not buried under the noise of Philly.

Yep, that's right. They were busing them out of the projects to the polls by the hundreds.

LOOKS LIKE THE STATES ARE INDEED UNITED AND THE CITIES NOT.

I HAVE TO SAY THAT I WAS ENCOURAGED TO SEE ALL THE RED IN OHIO,PENNSYLVANIA, VIRGINIA, FLORIDA, EVEN CALIFORNIA BEFORE ALL I COULD SEE WAS BLUE STATE. NOW I KNOW THAT THEIR ARE GOOD HONEST HARD WORKING, GOD FEARING PEOPLE THEIR.

WE WILL BE ALRIGHT...

Sorry Vernon I guess my understanding of how the electoral process was started and how it really works was skewed. Thank you ever so much for opening my eyes.

I will say this, I would not be against doing away with it all together and using congressional districts to determine the doling out of electoral votes. After all are not the electoral votes determined by the number of congressional districts? So if one state has 15 electoral votes, then whichever candidate won the district, then he or she would receive that 1 electoral vote.

The only real problem there is that the redistricting process would really get ugly. Uglier than it already is.

from Think Progress:
Obama Swept States With The Most Educated Workforces And The Highest Paid Teachers
Of the 10 most educated states, measured by the percentage of residents over 25 years old who have a bachelor’s degree or higher, Obama swept all 10. Conversely, among the 10 least educated states, Obama lost 9 states.

Similarly, states that invested the most in teachers went overwhelmingly for Obama. He swept the 10 states with highest average public school teacher salaries. Among states in the bottom 10 for average teacher salaries, Obama won just one.

You assume education equals intelligence, and inflated teacher salaries usually indicate union involvement. No mystery.
