Great unit. Best I have ever used for tracking or training. Tracks better than the Astros and the ecollar is better than anything Sportdog or TriTronics has ever made.

What do you mean by "tracks better".

.

To try and answer Wingpatch's question I will give a review from where I stand.

I have customers I can place into two groups. Those that coonhunt and have one or two dogs and those that pack hunt and have up to twenty collars in operation at a time. Only have one at twenty dogs so far. lol The pack hunters I deal with mostly are Deer hunters down here in FL and South GA.

Most of the customers that run one or two collars and moved up from the ASTRO to the ALPHA are very happy and have little problems. A lot of it is their experience with the ASTRO and the operator error that gets blamed on the system is gone. There has been an issue or two with a collar acting up and a couple handheld issues that get addressed by Garmin rather quickly.

Now for my Extreme Pack Hunters. I have one group of Five that all have systems. They each have from 5 to 10 collars and they have all hunted this past week 7 days a week from Daylight until the dogs are caught at night which is over 12 hours a day. I get a text message everytime there is some GLITCH and I then try and duplcate their problem at the shop and if I can prove it's a problem I ship an e-mail to a Garmin Engineer.

When I started this response I sent a text to one of the guys out hunting and just asked him if he thought the ALPHA was better than the ASTRO.
His response was you have the serious dog hunters and you have some that just go a few times a month. The ALPHA is for the serious dog hunter that has experience with the ASTRO. I am not here to say the ALPHA is not without a problem or two. But the experience of the owners keeps them from getting bashed like the other systems did due to operator error.

I will be the first to admit I have been disappointed in the TT Shockers at times. But my testing with the ALPHA has been a different story. If you are tracking them you can shock them in every test I have done which is about half dozen.

One guy just text me and said he had a dog get out of pocket yesterday and he tracked him in and out at 4 miles last night. Which allowed him to get up with the dog.

Now they have been out for awhile. How are they holding up?Would like to here some new reviews.

Other than one of my collars starting to tear apart where the black rubber is connected under the back plate after not even a year of use I have no problems or complaints, I have had some weird things happen but if you give yourself a few minutes to figure it out youll find out its operator error, you have to be smarter than the handheld and sometimes that can be hard haha

Best tracker and shocking unit I have ever used !!! Period number two isn't even close!! And yes before garmin bought tri tonics it was a piece !!!but I feel confident saying there isn't another training unit that will come close to the alpha!! I consistantly tone at 1500- 1700 yards and it works every time!!!!

Best ever!!!!!

I have had a 220, a 320, and now an Alpha and it's not even close. The Alpha is far superior in every dept over the Astros. I have never had a single issue with mine and I couldn't be happier!
