When Is The Right Age To Start Hunting One On There Own

JUST WONDERING GUY'S WHEN YOU THINK A YOUNG DOG IS READY TO GO ON IT'S OWN

About 4 months, They learn more alone in 60 nights alone than they will learn from an old dog in 2 years. It may be less fun going alone with a pup but the end result will be a dog that can do it alone. You will also know earlier if you have a good prospect or a dud.

When the dog tells you it is ready. Some are ready to hunt alone at 6 months and others might be 12 or 14 months.

Personally I don't even start fooling with mine on any type of game until 5 or 6 months at the earliest and at that age I don't force anything on them. Just introduce them to it and see how they react.

LOL that's the only reason I'd do it that way. If I lost my old dogs now I know I'd just buy a trained one. Mine are old enough to hunt on their own when they run good and know what to and not to run and show some good signs at the tree.

When they split tree or can tree a caged coon. If they're trailing and getting in the dark by themselves I take them alone too.

Lee, that's a good picture but I'll promise you that pup will not and is not ready to hunt on its own. A coyote would get it at that age!!! And yes, I start hunting a lot of pups by themselves that have never seen an older dog. It is a little slower but the end result is MUCH better. Usually around 8-12 months old they will tree coon by themselves.
