tape worms

Anyone know of any good ways to get rid of tape worms? I have tried nearly everything from the local feed store.

Trip to your local vet. office for Droncit,Cestex,Drontal or Drontal Plus...most are pills I think....Tapes usually from flea infestation or dogs eating ddead animals. You must kill the head of the tape worm attached to the lining of the gut or you just keep reinfesting the dog....tapesworms are segmented so each segment has eggs to reinfest. Also got to eliminate the problem....fleas or bad eating habits. Most other wormers just don't get the tapeworm

Safe guard (fenbendazole) equine dewormer paste works good for us from local feed store don't know if you tried it. But we give adult dogs half click three days in row

What alot of people do not understand is there are two tape worms.The fenbendazole will only get one type.
One type is from swallowing fleas the other is from consuming raw contaminated meat.
If you do not get any pet supply catalogs do a search on line for veterinary supply dealers.
You will find there is a bottle of 5 or 10 praziquantel pills for dog tapes selling for around 25-30 .00.
You will also find a bottle of Fish Tapes with the exact praziquantel .I think the one is 36 mg.Anyway 30 pills for around 30.00.There is absolutely no difference except the quantity and price.You will have to search for the dosage for the size dog you are treating because the bottle is packaged for fish.
I promise you this pill works 100% on both type of tapes.

Right; and even when they had the Adams Tape worm expeller you needed to tie them out in the woods away from the kennel for the dogs to pass them. Otherwise they will pick them right back up. Nothing named so far works on tapes to my knowlege and you can't get the expeller any more.

A trip to the Vet will knock them, or use Valbaazen, 5 cc, 3 days in a row and your dog won't have tapes..........good luck.

Yes ; on what Safe Guard works on but it ain't Hooks . Try the valbazen like the man from above suggests. It might work and it might not , but the others do not work.

Lyle and others I will back myself 100% the praziquantil will get both tapes.It is the same as the droncit the vet trip used to get you.Now it is drontel and has the other wormer pyrantel proamte added for hooks and rounds.
I have used the fenbendazole .It only will get one tape.
I have used the Adams and it was garbage.
At one time when Dr Daniels was available it worked but was discontinued.Since then the prazaquantel is the only brand I have found that absolutely works 100 % on both tapes.

mikemockbee please heed my advice .The fish Tape will work.Pop them down the mouth one time and it is done.
No three day dosing and no wondering if you got them all.
There are two sizes like I mentioned 34 mg and 170 mg .You want the smaller one so you can dose puppy size 10 lb and up.

Drontel runs over 180.00 fo 50 tabs
regular fenbendazole runs 10.00 for dosing one adult dog
fish tape runs 30 .00 for 30 tabs and will worm 5 to 6 adult dogs

And by the way. If you read the worming descriptions fenbendazole is for the TREATMENT and CONTROL of tapes.
Prazaquantel is for the REMOVAL of BOTH tapes.

I use D-worm which is praziquantol. I have used it for 5 years. Anything with prazi will lead to t dog being tape free

unless they are ingesting the contaminated food, control the fleas and you wont have a problem. Ive use zimectrin gold as well for the flea tapes. also now use comfortis for fleas, first year I have used it and after they were gone, have not had a problem. had 1 dog w/ small tape issue, treated for fleas and worms..no more problems.
