Rules question

Dog is declared treed, dog shuts up. The light on the dogs tracking collar comes running past you. Is the dog minused for leaving the tree or does it have 2 mins to get back to it?

Good judge would turn his light on and verify it was the right collar before minusing. If in fact it was the dog then no it doesn't have 2 minutes.

If the dog was running a light like the Tracker flashers and it was the only dog on the cast wearing one and you see the flashing collar run past you it`s minused and maybe the judge has to learn the rules. His dog, right?

Just politely ask for a vote on his non call if you would have lost the vote then,again politely, ask the judge to place a question mark next to that tree score. Take it to the master of hounds or panel.

I think both are incorrect

First can't minus a LIGHT period. Second if judge heard a dog around the cast he should turn light on and see what dog it is and minus THAT dog. How hard can that be.

Anytime a dog leaves a tree it is minused. It doesn't master how the judge makes that determination.

i was at a hunt few weeks ago .judge says to me let me know when your dog has quit that track .so i look around brush is thick cant see which dog but you can see the two lights on collar.i say to the judge i will.but thats not my dog cause i use a tracker classic and it has 1 light.nonthing was ever said about that again.i just laughed

He's not only correct, but he's taking the most sportsman approach to the issue. The judge was wrong for not ensuring it was the dog treed, by shining a light on it, to be certain. I understand the light on the collar, but this would be a simple assurance that there was no question. Then... request a vote on the ruling you beleive was handled incorrectly.

There's right and wrong, and there's appropriate ways to handle it...

There are two rules at play, and one of them has nothing to do with barking... if the dog left the tree, he/she is minused. They don't have to bark off the tree. If they are treed they are to bark at least once every two minutes, but that's not related to leaving the tree, other than a bark heard away from the area a dog was treed in, may let you know that they have left.

These two rules are very clear on the back of the scorecard. The detail, Travis pointed out, that I was trying to highlight is that this doesn't need to become a debate or argument over the rules (no matter how clear-cut it is) because the process allows for a judges call to be questioned and put to a vote, and if you are still dissatisfied, you can have a question placed on the scorecard and taken back to the Master of Hounds or a Panel.

All to often we ruin a hunt by getting into a argument, due to a simple mistake or misunderstanding. If we would follow the process of questioning a rule call, and if necessary taking back to the MH for a decision, we could probably salvage a lot of bad nights.

In other words, mistakes happen and there's a process that deals with them, that could and should prevent debates, arguments or worst.

Dave, if the only dog in the cast with a lighted collar comes running by, I know all I need to know to minus that dog for leaving his tree.
I don't go out of my way to complicate things.

All the judge needs to do is identify the dog. How he does that, whether it be by his ears, his eyes or a combination of both is irrelevant, if the judge knows to his satisfaction that the dog moved, he needs to minus that dog. If anyone don't agree, follow the process.

And you will notice it wasnt disclosed till after I posted that the treed dog was the only one with a lighted collar. I was just as Dave pointed out just stating that it makes for a much more pleasant cast if people follow the questioning procedures rather than throwing fits.
