Bench Show in Owosso, MI - What to expect??

I finally got my puppy!
*Sorry pic is so big, it's either showing huge or itty bitty*

I live in Perry, MI and was recently encouraged to take the pup to the bench show in Cheasning, MI, but the lady that was going to take me cannot go. I know nothing about shows and the dog isn't trained for showing.

Was wondering if anyone can tell me what to expect, if I dare wing it alone? Does the dog need to be trained to participate or can we throw our hat in the ring and just see what happens? Do they win anything at these shows, like a title for their pedigree or anything else? And, all the coonhunters that I have met have all been super nice, but if someone without a clue (like me) enters into one of these shows does it irritate people? Perhaps I should find out about training her to show before I venture off into it??

Also, the weather is pretty yucky right now, do they continue the show even in rain?

And finally, how does the hunt work? Do they just turn the dogs out or are they leashed or somehow contained? She has never hunted either. Thus far the dog has basic training and dresses up in costumes to visit hospitals and nursing homes. The idea of showing and hunting were never part of the master plan but now I am kind of intrigued by the idea.

come to the show early and my self or some one else would be glad to give you a hand. you earn points towards titles, the show will be under the pavillian. for the hunt dogs are free casted, i would advise not entering a young dog who hasnt been hunted, but you could always tag along and spectate on a hunt to see how it goes.

That would be awesome! I am thinking that I am going to try. Not sure how I'll find you, but I shouldn't be that hard to recognize.... I am the tall one with curly hair and a confused look on my face. =) Ellie has a pink leash.

Also-

Your dog has to be 6 months old to compete.
Cory- just look for the short guy with a plott dog

Would be a good beginning to get a feel for what it' s all about. Cory & others will help you show and tell you more about the hunts. Also can tell you about bigger shows & hunts like state championships , Autumn Oaks , breed days, etc..

Be sure you have your papers or quick entry card or you wouldn't be able to show, also as was said, dog must be 6 mo.old. I live in Minnesota but MOST coonhound people are frienly and helpful. Good luck and have fun.

The lady that I got her from has NOT given me the papers yet, but papers are from AKC. I tried to make the show anyhow just to get a feel for it but couldn't find it. =(
