Caught in a trap
We cut loose on a tree row off the river last night, dogs went about 1/2 mile right to the edge of the woods. I could see his collar light just moving right along the edge and all of a sudden let out the most painful sounding barks I've ever heard. Ran in there to him only to see him caught in #4. Probably lucky the dog didn't get something broke. I don't know what he thinks he's going to catch around here that would require a #4. There wasn't any swelling or anything last night or this morning. I guess he'll probably be ok.

Maybe yotes?
I have had dogs caught in #2 fox sets, just threw a coat over them, got them out and sent them on. Fellas, if you ever had a dog get in a Conibear, you will pray to God that all you ever see again is legholds. I will take my dogs out of legholds all nite long if they get them dam Coni's out.
By tha way, #4's on dry land are illegal in Indiana.

The #4 is pushing the Edge of being a legal trap with 6" Jaws in most State Regs ..
Ind. Regs
Foothold Traps
It is illegal to use a foothold trap with saw-toothed or spiked jaws. It is illegal to take a wild animal with a foothold trap if the widest inside jaw-spread measured perpendicular to the trap’s base plate and the inside width between the trap’s hinge posts (both measurements) is greater than 5¾ inches and less than or equal to 6½ inches, unless the jaws of the trap have at least a 1/8 inch offset, the gap of the offset is filled with securely attached rubber pads, or the trap is completely covered by water.
Securely attached rubber pads are those attached with bolts or rivets. The trap’s hinge posts must be maintained at a 90-degree angle to the trap’s base plate. It is illegal to take a wild animal with a foothold trap on land if the widest inside jaw-spread measured perpendicular to the trap’s base plate and the inside width between the trap’s hinge posts is greater than 6½ inches.

leg holds are not designed to bust up an animals foot....If they do too much damage the foot will go numb and the animal will pull or chew it off.

In Indiana, the #3 is the biggest legal leghold trap you can use on dry land. My dogs have been in them and were never injured.

yep we sure did have a crazy night last night between dogs climbing trees and getting in traps i still really dont like the fact that someone thinks they need to use a #4 trap for yotes thats just overkill
I stuck my fingers in a #2 in high school for a demonstration in a speech class to prove that trapping was humane. On a smaller dog or critter though, I would think a #4 could do some damage. Maybe not, but he sure knew it was there last night night.

no indiana dosnt have a law about trap name tags
I think I know who it is. I'm going to stop and talk to him. I guess I'll just have to find out where he's trapping at and either stay away or just try to keep close in case he gets caught again.

Her in Minnesota lots of the trappers use bucket sets. Take a 5 gal. pail and put a conibear #220 in it and throw some meat or other bait in the bucket. Trying to get 220 banned for ground sets. The bucket sets are deadly for a dog.

I was hunting a corn field one night and heard the snap and a lound yelp, looked and my dog was spinning circles around the field, as I shined the light on him I saw the 330 conibear around his head, I pinned him down and got the trap off his head the dog died right their in my arm with my 9 year old son watch me give this dog cpr. I lost one of the best dogs I have ever owned in 30 years of hunting. The set was a 330 conibear with a slim jim for bait in the box set, the guy who did it got caught said he was trapping coon, the warden that day found 5 more sets in the area.
