OT-music/performances that give you the chills

I love music especially old country and her are some of my favorite songs and performances. Id be interested to see what everyone else likes.

Mrs. Vestal Goodman- she about sends me into a fit when she gets up wth her hanky. So perfect

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EK-gYUQSI38

Forget elvis presley, george jones is the best singer and performer to ever walk. The way he twists and turns his neck and grits his teeth. Possum is something else. This is one of my favorites.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ERW8z8Y6MHk

These next two videos are from one of my favorite documentarys ever. Heart Worn Highways. IMO, two of the best song writers of the last 50 years.
Townes Van Zandt- waitin around to die

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xTGKzWDakK8
The hurt in the black mans face watching him is a genuine as it gets.

And one that really gets me is ole DAC. Hes written some terrible stuff in the 70s and 80s, but man he could write a gem too.
David Allan Coe- River

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k3pVhNjG-K4

I could go on and on but these are the ones I thought of first. Good stuff

You know if he would have died in the 70s he would have been hands down the best. It's really a shame what he's done. I saw him in 2010 and it was the saddest thing I've ever seen. But I agree with you. He wrote some PERFECT records. And you can't take those away from him.

Man I'll have to look later but when the hagg introduces Paycheck at the prison and he does I'm the only hell. People were going nuts and Johnny looked like a child he was so happy. RIP Donald Eugene

DAC - I have seen the old man so many times I can not count.

The reason he doesn't get the respect is from the 2 undergrounds albums he did back in the 70's (some of you know what I am referring to).

I have a bootleg CD that he did in Pantera's recording studio all in the raw and accoustic doing his old songs............Favorite CD I own of his stuff and I have everything he has put out.

Here's a couple pics I took from a few years back:

You and I obviously have very similar taste in music! I'm a HUGE Conway fan, and "Old Violin" is one of my favorite Paycheck songs. I'm only 27, but I think I was born a generation too late...I love the 70's "outlaw country" artists. Not sure where that came from, as neither of my parents were big into country music.

I've seen DAC and Bocephus in concert...Hank Jr was hands down the best I've seen live in my life. Hope to see him again sometime before he calls it quits.

Thank goodness, there are a few up and coming groups and artists (not well known yet) that are bringing back some of the "old" sound.

Side note...the hound I own that is my "favorite" is named Waylon. Appropriate since my family and friends from way back all call me Jessie. I also have bluetick brothers Coe and Conway. We're waiting on some special new additions to add to our "outlaw" collection! LOL

thanks for the post everybody. Ive checked them all out and like em all. IMO, this is the saddest song/performance ever. If you have lost your father or are really close to him it should hit pretty hard. Hes a great songwriter, too.

billy bragg-tank park salute
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ol-5...be_gdata_player

Kiss me goodnight and say my prayers
Leave the light on at the top of the stairs
Tell me the names of the stars up in the sky
A tree taps on the window pane
That feeling smothers me again
Daddy is it true that we all have to die

At the top of the stairs
Is darkness

I closed my eyes and when I looked
Your name was in the memorial book
and what had become of all the things we planned
I accepted the commiserations
Of all your friends and your relations
But there's some things I still don't understand

You were so tall
How could you fall?

Some photographs of a summer's day
A little boy's lifetime away
Is all I've left of everything we've done
Like a pale moon in a sunny sky
Death gazes down as I pass by
To remind me that I'm but my father's son

I offer up to you
This tribute
I offer up to you
This tank park salute

Most powerfull single performance ever recored in my opinion right here... I don't agree with her politics , but My Lord the chick has PIPES ! The notes she hits in this clip are in another stratosphere. The last 30 seconds of the clip will blow you away.

Vince Gill doesn't hurt a thing in this clip either.

Jamie Johnson

Check out Jamie Johnson, I can hardly stand to listwn to all of the "pop" country that is played today. But Jamie is pure old country. You can hear the pain in voice. Such a bluesy singer.

I'd love to see George Jones too! He was scheduled to play our state fair one year since I've been an adult...my daddy kidded with me that I wouldn't get to see him, and George did end up canceling for some reason. LOL!

I actually have pretty eclectic taste in music, and don't mind some of the country that has more of a rock edge to it these days. There's a group I've been following for a couple years now that has just started to become "big," Florida Georgia Line, that I absolutely love. The single they have out on the radio is good, but mainstream sounding...if you dig deeper into some of their other music they have some great stuff. Outshyne is great too, and since they're from our area we try to see them as much as possible.

As far as an "older" sound goes, I discovered Matt Mason on some sort of CMT talent search show. I like his style. Sounds a lot like Sammy Kershaw.

How about Eric Claptons song Tears in Heaven? It was a dedication for the tragic death of his son.

A couple other moving songs, in my opinion.

1. God of Wonders by Third Day

2. Agnus Dei by Michael W. Smith

3. Reign O'er Me, by Pearl Jam

I fixed my Billy Bragg link. Dern dirtdvil a lot of those videos won't play on my phone for some reason but Adele sure does kill it in that song. Mark, I've never seen that performance and it sure was something else. Added it to my favorites and I'm sure I'll watch it often.

Also I do really enjoy Jamey Johnson, he is the real deal. Enjoy the songs everybody.

profit 56...

Love third day. got a few cd's by them. I pretty much dont listen to any secular music any more. It is pretty depressing really.
I did use to listen to pearl jam as well back in the day.
Black by pearl jam was a great one.

If you like music of all kind, You can watch my son on most thrs. fris and sdr on a live cam web feed in Key west fla. at a place called Smokin Tuna. He is name is Rusty Lemmon. He has a couple of c.d.s recorded over the past few years.
He does a lot of cover songs....lots..hundreds.. all over the music spectrum. He really goes back into the archives and does some old credance clearwater, pearl jam, old rock stuff, some country...he will take requests.... next time he is on there, I will get on this post and let you know and you can flip over and watch him. He is pretty darn good if I say so myself. Has been real close to a few record deals and even made it to the recording stage of Americas got talent and had a problem getting to the recording site. They did a video of his life story and everything and something happened. Not really sure what went on behind the scenes as to why he didnt make it on.

anyway...listen and give me your opinion. He can do some old dac too if you want.

you mite can go to their website and get the schedule.
