Ear Infection

My dog has been shaking his head lately, and acting like he is struggling with a track. I have heard an ear infection can effect a dog tracking and treeing coons.. How do you treat an ear infection without going to the vet?

buddy of mine put it in a english dog and cured it he swears by it another thing that works is mix achol and peroxide togather but i forget how much of each think its 50/50 but not sure you also can flush the ear with peroxide let it dry out hold dogs ear so you can get it down the ear canal after it drys out and put boric acid powder in the ear take your finger and lightly peck it so the powder will get down in the ear canal

Ear Infections

We have one that has constant ear problems. Been to the Vet & had ears flushed out. Prednizone Pills (RX), We give Penacillin Shots, Doctor Specially Mixed Ear Med's (Made special for dog from Ear Culture) Etc Etc Etc And the List goes on.
I am using a mixture of 14 ounces of Apple Cider Vinegar & 2 Tablespoons of Providine-Iodine (Walmart Brand). I take a Syringe (Without Needle) & Draw a full Syringe per Each Ear. I do this several times a week. You can clean ears out with 1/2 Alchohol 1/2 Proxide mixture before. I keep a bottle mixed on hand. I also have been using off and on Monistat 7 & Tinactin Powder (Wal-Mart Brands). Have tried Mange Treatments with Sulfur in the ingredients. (This did not help in our case)
Haven't Tried The Listerine/Mineral Oil or the Brake Fluid (Not Yet Anyways). ALSO have changed dog foods from Purina One Lamb & Rice to Diamond Natural Lamb & Rice (Went thru 2 Full Bags just for this dog.) Did Not Help our dog.
Good Luck With Yours

Have any of you heard that an ear infection, interfers with a dogs tracking and treeing?

Posted by GA DAWG on 10-03-2012 10:55 PM:

Id go to the vet and see what's wrong if you think anything of the dog. Some infections require antibiotics. Some can get really really bad if untreated!!! Course brakefluid. I've heard that before myself. Even know a guy that used it but he didn't know if it was infection or mites. Im sure it will fix ear mites. Same as burnt motor oil fixes the mange.

Yeah I will definanlty do what I need to do. I just hate how vets are. Try to get you to leave with everything under the sun. The vet acts like its terrible that I give my own shots.

if he truely has an infection you will have some luck w/hydrogen peroxide if it isnt too bad, but you may need some drops that contain gentamicin....$16.00 a bottle at my vet.

Re: infection

Problem with my vet is he wants that office call charge. He won't just let me stop in and buy what I need. Then he wants to give all kinds of shots and wormer and all this other bs that I all already do on my own.

@gadog1 - may want to get the dog allergy tested. if you keep having them and changing feeds didnt help - although all you changed was the brand not the ingredients. first place to look is allergies and start with diet. usually runs less than $100 for blood test and if you need allergy shots, around $100/yr. if it turns out something food related, you could probably change the diet and it will clear up.
