Lone Pine Breeding Info?

ANY INFO ON WHAT TYPE OF DOGS LONE PINE DOGS ARE PLEASE???

you can find alot of info just by looking up (lone pine kennels). there is alot of interesting stuff on there.

look up sharp tooth kennels they are in penn. very very nice folks done business with them have some nice hounds at there place

Lone Pine North

It just depends on what you call LONE PINE...

Lone Pine started with Duvall's Lone Pine Lady. She was bred to Finley River Pete and Finley River Spike. That's where Lone Pine originated. So that's why some are red headed and colored up.

From there Lee Logan bred one to Bozo. So that's where the black headed ones come from. They have the some history if you go back far enough, but the black headed are "Wild Clover" dogs.

For some general traits:

They go hunting
some are wide open, some are tight mouthed.
good bawl mouth on the ground, good locates, solid chop on the tree. above average volume.
independant, but not ignorant about it. if they split, they'll stay, but they'll just beat they pack to the tree too.
as accurate as any line out there and don't take all night to get treed.

BALANCED. Nice all around dogs.

I may be a little biased, but I know of several on here that have hunted regularly with enough of them that are good enough friends that they won't offend me with anything they say.

Her mother Bear Creek Pam was out of Godwin's Jolly. Jolly was out of Finley River Chief and Godwin's Little Jewel who was out of Merchant's Banjo II.

One of the top females in her day that also produced a lot of good hounds was Lone Pine Jill. Jill was out of GRAND NITE CH. FINLEY RIVER PETE and DUVALL'S LONE PINE LADY.

Lone Pine J B why do you say the black headed dogs come from across on Bozo dont understand.Bozo to me was one of the best reproducers of hard hunting,treedogs.Thanks for the pictures.

I have had the privilage of hunting with a good amount of lone pine dogs since me and Lone Pine JB live near each other and are friends. What he says about the dogs is correct. The LONE PINE gang seems to have a great breeding program based on a foundation of great females. Some of the best ones are top shelf hounds in any woods and in any kennel. They are pleasureable to be around, go hunting good, good track dogs, good treedogs, good mouths and like to have coons when they tree, Like JB said the think I like most about them is they are balanced.

Here is a Wild Clover dog from the late 80's my first real coon hound. He went back to Lone Pine Breeding. UKC Grand Nite Champion NKC Supreme Grand Nite Champion Pr Beaver Creek Tack. This dog could reproduce and could tree coon anywhere. The only problem is that i was 16 and had no money or knowledge of how to promote a dog of this caliber.

And yes that is me in a Tux before the prom. went hunting that night too. and now 30 yrs later still going lol. Hunting Treeing cur and treeing walkers. Got a nice grand at stud now. old blooded walker dog

One thing I will say about Lonepine hounds is that they breed for what they like first and the they know the female has just as much to do with breeding as the stud. Never met the guys but I been around a while and seen some of their stuff work.

They came from Lee Logan's GRNITE Wild Julie female that was bred to Hardwood Bozo. That cross produced Logan's Wild Clover, Lone Pine Patches, and some I'm others I'm not remembering right now. Julie was red headed and showed the Finley River color

That's just where the black headed "WILD" line came from. The red headed Lone Pine was bred to more of the Finley River bred hounds and maintained that coloration.

One of the best hounds I owned was a double Filnley River Dan and Lone Pine Jill cross. You had Julie on the top side and Wateree Rex on the bottom. I always felt if I had a dog to win the world it was Calley...she met an early demise on the roads prior to tracking systems... I have spoken with Lee and some of the close in people and Finley River crossed on that line worked well, but...."politics" kept it from happening again.

I live amoungst the heart of Lone Pine guys, Tom Strang is a dear friend and only lives about 8-10 miles from me.. Terry Marth, bump into him all the time in the woods.. The guy who hide hunts with Tom Strang is about 3 miles from me... Not to mention countless others here in Pa. that got this stock in their hounds... The biggest thing I can say is, when the going is tough and the weather is not ideal and most guys are home in front of a TV because their dogs don't have what it takes to tree the tough ones... The Lone Pine boys are in the woods and they are treein coon.... I either see em, hear em or bump into em out there.. They have the nose that you seldom see anymore with many..

You're right about that, Wayne. My old GrNt (Wild Cal) was exactly like that. He put them out the outside in single digit temps. We left the farm one night and it was 6 degrees at the milking parlor with the bare ground frozen solid . Twenty minutes later treed about 400 yds from where he struck he had a 28 pounder on the outside. He was direct off Casey. I had one right off old Clover that would tree them in the worst of weather....but on a beautiful night when every coon in the country was out he might burn the hair off an old grey...ALL NIGHT LONG!!!

my 1st dog (and all but one since) was a Lone Pine dogs. He was off Terry's Marth's dog Red and Dennis Kennedy and Frank Nye's Penny female.

I always thought it was normal to be able to go out on those bitter cold night, in nasty snowstorms, etc and still tree coon.

Randy, I do remember a night or 2 of the fox chases, one was with you during a comp hunt. Seems that that place was really the only place I ever had them though.

we're talking about fox chases, but as a whole, the Lone Pine dogs that I've been involved with, for the most part, have been naturally straight.

there are always exceptions, but generally, they are trash free or break themselves.
