lymes vaccine

Has anyone had a dog come down with lymes that has been vaccinated on schedule?

I never have. Had one that had lymes before I gave her shots, never had any problems after. Always give 2 shots about 14 days apart the first time them only 1 a year after.

Bucky tested positive today for lymes and Anaplasmosis. First time ive ever had a dog get it. I'm going to start vaccinating after his treatment ends. It's a costly vaccine, and want to see if is money well spent before i vaccinate the whole kennel.

I don't think there is a vac. for Anaplasmosis. My hunting partner lost his dog from Lymes and Anaplasmosis. He had both at the same time and The Anaplasmosis affected his heart killed him. I give all my dogs Lyme shots as soon as I can. We got three tick diseases up here, Lymes, anaplasmosis, and Ehrlicha all bad and humans can get them too.

Dave

Do you think the BADGERS came down with lymes to?

Posted by JiM on 10-01-2012 06:38 PM:

Dave, I don't know anything myself but here is a link to what others say about the vaccine. As with most things you find on the net, believe it at your own risk.

When I lived in Washington state I gave. Rock the lymes vaccine before sending him to Wisconsin to stand at stud. He still got Lyme and it ended up sterelizinghim, because we didn't have it in Washington it took a long time to get a diagnosis.

lymes

At our club every year we have a vet come down to the club and everyone brings their dogs to get rabies shots well these last couple of years he has brought the lymes shot along. My uncle and a guy we go bear hunting with both tried the shots and both of their dogs still ended up getting lymes and dying. But the vet that comes down to the club swears that it helps but the vet I normally go to says that it doesn't. So who knows?

there is so many different tick diseases, i worry about the vaccine covering up the syptoms. think i'll just pay attention to how the dogs act and get them to a vet and have them treated. i just noticed Bucky acting lame. and not being very active in the kennel over the weekend. couldn't see anything wrong with his front leg so decided to take him in and have him checked for lymes. how long he had it before showing symptoms, i'll never know.. but the vet said his heart was fine, so no damage there.

Yes. Never bothered with the vaccine again. Luckily it was caught early and there were no side effects. Now they're given revolution every three weeks and a full round of doxy 4 weeks before hyde season. The stress of pushing them hard seems to bring the lymes out. JMO

I give it to all my dogs never had a dog that was vaccinated get it. I start with the two doses 3 weeks apart as pups then yearly after that. Have had dogs that weren't vacc get it and they are never the same when pushed hard and stressed after they have shown symtoms. You run them hard and it will show! There are different types of vacc and some work better than others. My vet said lots of dogs get or have had lymes and some it has a real bad effect on and some you never actually even know that they have it. I buy it from Jeffers and we give all vaccines ourselves. A lot of dogs around here get it and since we've kept up a regular schedule we've not had a single one so id say it's been working for us.

I myself have had it and it is the worst feeling I have ever felt in my life. I was put on doxy just like the dogs are and it took me about two week to even feel a little better. Would not wish it on anyone.
