Everybody has a "stud dog" ?

Everybody has a "stud dog"? Lot of the times in Football when you have 2 QBs you don't have one good one. When I say Stud I want a dog that throws the same thing in every pup. Rat threw treedogs. Harry threw track dogs. With Sun passing this week there is not one dog that stands out as a true STUD to me that is throwing more Bawl mouth track dogs then Chop all the way. Trackman is getting old. Legend is throw some nice ones as well as Gunsmoke. There is a few young dogs that I think could be studs.

But where is the true 4 or 5 STUDs in the Walker bred that are throwing bawl mouth track dogs.

We've had real good luck with Trackman, Trackrat, Legend, Lady's Man, and Bone Collector.

Ringo

Come to my house, Ill show you one and 5 of his pups. 6 if you wanna drive a hour. All big loud, houndy dogs bawl on track, bawl/chop on tree. Made it to Wooster last year, has some bigger wins in PKC, 4 cast wins in AKC. Has two litters on the ground, I will not post him at stud to the public. I will only breed him to GOOD FEMALES. noone seems to be interested in that though.....

The Midnite Jammer , owned by Bob McBride and Tom Bates . He is at stud in Ohio . He looks like a hound should , sounds like a hound should and has a coon when he trees like a hound should . He reproduces the same . Heavy Joe House bred .

Does Harry Bawls throw bawl mouth track dogs? Does he put drive in them? I've only hunted with one out of him.

TYLER THOSE DOGS YOU HAVE LISTED DID NOT DO THE THINGS THAT YOU SAY YOU LIKE IN A STUD...ALOT OF THE RAT AND HARRY DOGS DID NOT THROW THE BALANCE...

BUT TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTION I DONT KNOW WHAT ONES TODAY WOULD BUT I DO LIKE WHAT I HAVE SEEN OUT OF THE BONE COLLECTOR DOG....

Honestly I'd have to agree , nothing out there really shows the traits of yesterday 's hounds . I really like trackman stuff , had good luck with it . To be honest a lot of people these days out source their breeding program . Why not breed your own stock ? If you have a quality male and female hound stock it to em , atleast you know what kinda quality you will have on your pups . to many paper pushers these days . All grand is nice for anyone but does it tree a coon ? Quality hounds will reproduce , and the lame ones won't . There's a lot of good quality studs out there but there's also a lot of feeder bucket , paper pushers out there as well .

From what i have seen in the pups lately is that Bean and Wild Card are throwing the most balance in their pups. I don't own a dog from either dog, but there is proof out there. I remember when dogs learned to track long before they learned to tree. but now dogs will tree a sock if you put in a tree.

Re: Everybody has a "stud dog" ?

I have never had any dog in my kennel that has anything but a bawl mouth on track ,maybe its pure luck. I just always assumed chop mouth track was the exception to the rule cause i rarely see it...Maybe its the female thats giving dogs its chop on a track. Come to think of it, i think i have only hunted in one chop mouth track dog in my life.

Quality hounds will reproduce...and the Lame ones wont? Im not sure that is true.I had a buddy that had a blank treeing FOOL, and a female that did absolutely nothing in the woods but stand there....Well an accidental breeding happened, and i have gotten several reports from several different people that about 4 of the pups that are 10 months are super nice in the woods....Also if I remember right, Big D mother was never hunted or a house dog...Just cause a hound is a nice dog does not mean it will reproduce the same. No matter what you breed to, its a gamble. Some will make it, some wont.

it puts alot on the studs when anything that squats to piss is getting bred!! The female plays a huge role in breeding! Everyone is quick to knock the stud instead of the ones breeding junk females. JMO

I can't stand hunting females... Will not have one on my place! In picking a pup I will not get one out of any thing except a great female. That should tell you what I think of stud dogs!!! I believe the powerful female carries most of the it factor!!!

I agree with belly up! Thats the truth right there.....

Way, way, way to many pups being born. Everybody wants to breed to something hot to try to make a buck so they back anything up to them that they can find, also alot of people have a male that can trip over and tree a sick coon and thats about it and they want to breed it to 10 bitches to see what he throws. Also with so many pups being born they all dont get a chance.

Posted by Matt McKinney on 09-12-2012 10:59 PM:

I have heard vets say if the dog is out of a good stock of dogs, and it doesnt make anything, breed it, and it will throw good pups. Something about the 3rd generation of traits will show up in pups. Not sure if its true or not, but he had bird dogs, and swore it was true. I have a nice female, and I havent bred anything to her because i want to know exactly what im breeding too..Not just one night in the woods with a stud dog. Im hoping to get me a nice breed pup, and if he turns into a nice dog, breed my own male to my own female and sort of start my own line of dogs for just me to hunt.

Amazingcursouth check ur messages.I have to agree is most studs arnt throwing balance.Ive hunted with 6 young dogs outta one of the most popular walker studs alive today. What did i see?Sure didnt see any coons treed.Seen alot of trees made. The leaves were off at the time to.It kinda shocked me.I exspected to see alot more.It seems to me like the walker breed is goin downhill due to all these so so reproducers.I could be wrong.

The breed isnt going down hill!! Decisions being made by people and there breedings is the problem!

Tyler,

I'm here to tell you that I get a ton of consistancy in the pups born at my house. The bottom line is that there are very few people who are selective enough about what gets bred, or what they breed to for that matter.

The registry will hang the title of "breeder" on you for simply making a cross....successful or not.

Just remember that there is probably a really nice reproducing male close to you, may not be in the magazine every month...may not be paid up in every program known to man...but will make the kind of pups you would be proud to raise and train....

There was a saying that a friend of mine used in his add..."you can drive farther but you won't get better". Personally, I'd prefer a dog close to home for stud. You can hunt with it and it's offspring. Plus, the terrain and area you hunt in is different somewhere in someone else's back yard. Many dogs from up north cant hunt here well at all. Too hot here and too dry for most dogs around here. Local dogs (from Texas) are used to it... Since this is how and where I hunt I want a dog from here that can do it. I've driven farther and didn't get better, in fact got much worse

Mojo does throw some dogs that chop on track and many people see that as a big negative. Personally I don't care as long as I can tell when they tree. I have a 7 month old off Mojo and he does both on track, mainly bawl but chops at times too.
