Where the red fern grows

I just got done watching where the red fern grows with my kids. My daughter who is six was so sweet, she had tears just running down her little cheeks. I came home from work and she could hardly wait to watch the movie after supper. She had borrowed it from the library and was so excited that there was a coonhunting movie. I have to admit that her crying made me cry. I remembered how I felt and how I cried when I read the book as a young boy. Good to know that my daughter can relate to the love that Billy Coleman had for his to Redbones. I sure will always remember and cherish this special evening I shared with my kids. I hope she never loses her tender little heart, and I am grateful to have had this special moment with her that softened my hard heart just a little.

Disney came out with a newer version. Still the same plot and exact story it just has different actors. Great book and great family movie to watch with the kids and wife when u cant go to the woods. If u can find the newer one make sure to watch it. Great great watch. My6&8yo cant watch it enough. My 2yo however loves his "cars 1&2". Either way enjoy every second and soak it up. They grow up way too fast...

I am looking forward to when they are a little older so they too can watch this movie I have had it since I was a kid and I watched it alot. Great movie.. The second movie is not as good but still a good movie to watch

David,

first of all,I'd like to say--"Bless her heart". Second of all,I'm 55 yrs. old and I still cry every time I watch it. That movie has a way of reminiscing about some of the good hounds I have been blessed to own every time.It just drags back some old feelings and memories of the time I spent not only in the woods, but also in the yard and everything else.Love the movie. It never gits old.

This morning she was very concerned about the possibility of Shine treeing a lion anywhere we take him. She definately doesn't want us to take him hunting anywhere near Talleqauh. LOL!

I agree the movie actually disappointed me because so many rich details where lost. Every couple years or so I dust off my tattered copy of that book and reread it. I have cherished that book since I was probally 7 or 8 years old. The cover is tattered and barely still hanging on to the binding but I hope I still have that same copy when I am an old man. My father never has been into hunting of any kind and when I first read that book it ignited a fire in my soul. I just knew I was meant to be a houndsman. Of course my mother and father respounded with a firm and absolute NO! when I said I wanted a hound. I thank God for bringing Jack Fields into my life, and I thank Jack every time I see him for taking a snott nossd 'onery city kid to the woods. Jacks son Jeremiah and I caused both of our oarents many sleepless nights and I am sure a gray hair or two with our adolescent shenanigans. It was on more than one occasion that they had to show up to the police station in the wee hours of the morning and haul our butts home. But for all the wear and tear we put on our parents I have a feeling that they all would say they are proud of the man I grew uo to be and would tell you that hounds played a big role in teaching me what it really means to be a man. I will spend the rest if my life paying it forward, taking every kid I can out for at least one night in the woods.

great movies 1&2

But not even able to compare to the book. I also struggled with the desire to read a full book as a kid. I couldn't put this book down. It's about time to blow the dust off the movies and show to my youngest. And let the oldest read it. She loves to read, don't know where that came from. My favorite storyline ever. Happy hunting and good luck treeing that old ghost coon.
