dogs eyes vs. soybeans
during sat. night the last 20 min. of my cast the dogs run in a bean feild. My female was just recuperating from a bean field a week ago . She barely could open her eyes. just wondering what a person could do to help a dogs eyes after this. her eyes are gettin better ive been giving her benadryl.
I had to take Smokey to the vet last year for an infected eye. Cost me about $150. He recovered from it.

we always put bag balm around the eyes and on the under side of the ears after a bean field or corn field race. the corn rows are so narrow n stalks so close together it really rubs the hair off around eyes and under side of the ears. you might be suprised after a long corn field race to flip your dogs ears up and look at them.

Scrub em till they bleed and then put some ointment on them. Heals up pretty quick.

If not I want mine flying down the edges of fields looking to get treed with a coon.

I don't mind a bean field every great once in a while but if it becomes a habit the dog isn't looking to tree coon. By the way I don't even own a shocker.

dogs
That's name of the game I want them to earn every inch I want my dogs to be able to get treed no matter what track there running not just pop ups!because when Jan comes and them boars start running u better have a dog that can take a little pain with ice on feet, and the miles of running they better be able to take it!

I find more coon caught on the ground than in a tree when they go through a bean or corn field. Just my experience

If they can't push one out of a bean field ,time to get a different dog, not many golf courses where I hunt. Maybe this is why it's hard to find a good track dog with a nose now days,ya think?
If you don't want to hunt beans around here you might as well stay home. I grease the eyes up real good before I turn loose and their good to go.
I've heard vasoline around em works. Don't know. Ain't got none around here. Got clear cuts thick as fleas on a dogs back though. I've never shocked em outta one but I kinda agree with Hoosier. Nothing good ever comes from it much. Im sure I've shocked mine off coon before. I can't stand one getting in a hole. A hole = shocking for me. I don't really care if 10 coons are in there. Nothing positive can come from it!

Around here you don't have much choice.Half the time you have to cast them into one just to get to the timber. Have you ever been out of your county hunting? Better have a dog that can operate in all terrain if your going to be running many hunts
Vaseline or neosporin works fine too.

quote:Do you hunt these dogs together? I have a couple fiest that run a rabbit that way 1 will push him out and the other will pick it up at the edge, they work as a team, maybe your dog has figured this out while the others are running in the field he knows if he runs the edge they will push it out to him and BAM got him,Had beagles work together like that also

pushing one out has nothing to do with my reasoning really. I prefer to hunt dogs that stay out of fields as much as possible. Some fields around here are 2 to 3 hundred acres. A dog that has the desire to tree coon will quickly realize edges and fence rows are how to get the job done. If you have a world class bean field chaser good for you.
I will be more then happy to take you with 2 dogs I own. 1 will get in bean fields on a regular basis and I hate it. The other very rarely gets in 1. Any guesses on which I tree way more coon with?
