wolves
Well the wolves of the UP of MI strike again 3 dogs in 2 years. My uncle had a dog killed friday by the 3 wolf pack. They killed and consumed over half the dog in 15 to 20 minutes. He has been hunting in this area for 2 weeks with no wolf sign until the dog was cold trailing and they seen the fresh tracks entering the same section the hound was in they tried to get in and catch her but was to late. When will enough be enough? Is it going to take a human death by wolves for the DNR to do anything about these beasts? In my opion they were thinned out for a reason!

If anyone has had a run in with wolves in MI please ad to my post. The wolves are running houndsmen out of areas they have been running for years and the DNR say well seems you need to find a new area to hunt. So are we supposted to let the wolves run our hunting areas?

Its a shame that stuff like this has to happen, i personally have hunted with this dog that was killed, and she was one of the coldest nosed dogs i have ever seen, it is ruining the sport of hound hunting in the u.p., dont matter weather u run cats, bear, rabbits or, coyotes, ur dogs dont have a chance.what is it gonna come down to, a kid, or a grown up to get killed by these wolves, maybe then the dnr may start to care a little more

What a sad day in our house when we got the call on Dallas. Another year of high hopes dashed. Last year it was gut wrenchng enough when Mia and Train were killed. All great dogs and a pleasure to hunt with, and you will not find a better man than the guy who turned them loose, I will promise to do what I can to help correct this out of control problem.
I know these 3 dogs are and will be missed by the people who hunted with them and the man who owned them. I think that there will be several people willing to lend a hand.

gut shot!!!!!
Sounds like u need to run a pack of bull dogs through an start handin the dnr back there tracking collars. Then mayb they will find there wolves a new zip code.
it would take a lot of bulldogs to kill just one wolf they dont stand a chance

I don't know if the bull dogs would even have a chance. The male wolf weighs in at 120 to 150lbs. And you rarely find a single wolf so there would be a couple to tend to.

They killed all them for a reason and it should be done again. Between dogs and livestock you would think the dnr would get tired of paying for all they haved killed.

the problem here in michigan! at least the last time i knew they wont pay out on our hounds. just live stock. so no cost to them.

All the MI DNR will do is go to the kill site and confirm it was a wolf kill. No remburstment for the guy who's dog or dogs are killed. All they will pay for is livestock. I will try and put some pics on here when my uncle gets back of the two dogs he had killed last year and the one from this year to give everyone a good idea of the savagery of these wolf kills.

I am just curious how many wolfs are in WI and MI? Do all of them have collars? Is it unlawfull to kill them? If they are indeed killing livestock and I am sure they are why is the DNR so set on restocking these critters, they will only populate and create more damage.
It would seem to me that a hunter of any kind, trapper and outdoorsmen of any kind would be highly aginst the reinterduction to the wolf. Just seems stupid to me.
I am sorry for those houndsmen who have lost dogs to the wolf, isn't a dog considered livestock? If it isn't and I am sure it isn't because the dog is known as mans best friend, that should rate higher than livestock shouldn't it. I mean alot of the dogs I hunt I rate higher than alot of people I run into there are alot of idiots in this world and it would seems from the sound of the posts most of those idiots work for the DNR up north.
I would start a protest and gather as many farmers, hunters, outdoorsmen and as many folks with common sense to protest the heck of the wolf thing, good luck.

I will look it up, but the only thing I am buying these days is shells, the little bit of food I can't grow and GAS.
Should have known it was the good ol gov. I will check it out, so I can become a little more educated on the subject. Regardless if 3 of my bluedogs died at the hands of wolves, I would have me a little bait pile laid out.
They unloaded coyotes down here in the south and mid south as well as everywhere I guess and I have had dogs run off the tree, and been surrounded by them myself, it is a bit spooky at times, can only guess what it owuld be like knowing there were 3 or more hell hounds running about lookng to kill anything they come accross.
I guess the wolf is misunderstood like most criminals, I am sure the wolves that were turned loose had counceling and were deemed corrected and stable, not just a cold blooded killer.

NO fellas bulldogs wont work. However there is a dog that we are trying over here in the northwest. Its called a boerboel. They're huge and athletic. They are used in south africa to fend off lions. You would have to train them in on how to hunt the wolves but they have no problem taking a wolf. The problem with the wolf hounds is that they are too long legged with not alot of muscle in their legs. The wolf reaches in and snaps their legs. Obviously its over at that point. The boerboel is huge and very muscular. Its the obvious choice in wolf hunting with good results so far. So I have heard. heheheheheh as I am fleshing another hide. No not really but they are working.

Yeah, but not much of a choice for the working man on election day... Democrat or Republican! I would like to hear more about the Boerbel dogs on how they are doing with the wolves. That sounds very interesting.

Everyone should watch this movie even if the wolves do not affect you. A real eye opener and another scam pushed on the people.

wolves attack bear hounds in Upsala, Canada
I promised myself that I would no longer post on this forum, but I have continued to monitor the site and this thread on the wolf problem was brought home to me personally today, when I was informed that my hunting party was running a bear for hours somewhere around Upsala, Canada when the wolves came in]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\
