beep beep vs garmin

Since radio telemetry has been out, how many posts have we seen such as "need tracking help or tracker question". Now since the Garmin has been out, I bet we would all like a nickel for everytime we saw a post like "need help with Garmin or Garmin question" . Just something to think about. The Garmin is a nice tool and i do have one and it has saved me quite a bit of walking on certain occasions. However, think about if you are away at a hunt in unknown country do you really trust your garmin to get your dog and get you home. I know I would'nt. I would also like a nickel for everytime i've cussed that thing in the woods and had it not been for the lanyard i probably would not still have one. I wonder if we would not be better off with a 100$ personal gps to get back to the truck and stay old school with good old reliable beep beep. Just something to think about. P.S. how many of you still run their dogs with both garmin and radio trackers. We are going to have to start breeding dogs with longer necks before to long to accomodate all the hardware.

I will not ever turn a dog loose without some kind of gps on it again. Unless all the satellites fell. Then I might as well quit coon hunting cause everything will be in bad shape

i have tried the cheap gps hand helds there not for me
something with a map card may be all right as much as
these old walkers bark and tree i dont know why any body
would need either.

Use the Garmin as a training tool, and the beep beep for recovery when the Garmin fails!

So far my Garmin has yet to fail me. I have never had to leave a dog because of my Garmin nor have I ever lost a hound and wondered where it was at while it was wearing a Garmin collar.

Why anyone today would prefer a beep beep over a Garmin seems crazy to me.

If I were in a strange place at a hunt I would a hundred times rather have a Garmin than a beep beep. With the map you would know exactly where it was and what was around it.

I only recently got a tracking collar ,the old kind ... but it's good enough for me ....

... if my dog decides to quit coonhunting or being honest and I thought I needed gps to tell me what he's doing because he won't or is lying ... I will cure the problem for a nickel instead of the price of a garmin .

Kinda like the facebook post about kids in the old days not needing so many disclaimers or whatever because they were retarded enough to stick dynamite up their butt just because they saw it on tv ....

people are getting dumbe all the time , and us coonhunters aint smart enough in the first place to be dumbing ourselves down and relying even less on our brains , lol ...

so your saying Dirt Devil, that you had rather have to guess where your dog is and what he s around than to KNOW?

Your also saying you would cull your dog for going too deep?

i just got a garmin, but i will never sell my beep beep, i think its funny with all this tracking stuff, i remember never having a tracker not to many years ago, i know having to stop and listen for your dogs is so much work or god forbid you have to jump in truck and drive in the direction you last heard them barking LMAO , technogy is killing this sport !!!!!

You're trying to put words in my mouth and then answer them ... easy way to make yourself feel smart , but not a good way to actually be smart.


I want dogs that still check back in if coon aint moving and have homing instinct .. and I do my part to make sure my dog and I are a team ... and it works .


Look how high the demand is now for semen on those good studs from before the tracking collar and shock collar days .... coondogs with all around good sense that were honest ...


I don't want a fancy , indoor kennel .... a garmin or anything like that .... I still believe that hard times make hard men and the same goes for dogs .

that "in demand semen" is off reproducers of winners bud...winners...there not breeding for homing instincts.

Lets see do you want to plow a field behind a team of horses or mules or sit in a air conditioned cab on top of a john deere tractor? I would never go backwards to a beep beep, After 3 years of use on both beagles and cooners have never had a problem.JMHO

I have a chainsaw , but never use it .. .I still use an axe and limbsaw ... I switch between my riding mower and pushmower ... technology has helped and like I said ... I do use a tracking collar now ... but I don't plan on becoming dependant on it or spoiled by it .... it aint just kids that can be spoiled brats ...

i like garmin and use it. but i remember when i didn't have a tracking system of any kind. it was 1994 before i had one. i still use the beep kind just as often as i do the garmin. the only draw back i see to garmin is that folks look at them rather than listen to the hounds. the hounds can tell you alot of what they are doing. looks like a bunch of grown ups standing around the truck playing them nintendo things my baby girl has lol. im not knocking either unit because for the guys they may not be able to afford a gps unit a beep beep is all they need. think about it. if you have hunted anytime at all, you thought you were something when you got your first tracking unit.

i use both and will continue to use both especially when bear hunting until Garmin can get a 5-10 mile range anywhere and can get at least 8000 hours battery life on the collar.I just don't see myself taking a chance in loosing a dog

I love a garmin. I would never go back to beep. I have not lost a dog sence getting a garmin. With a beep-beep I always had trouble with the signal bouncing off the hills and telling your dog was the wrong way. Back then I sent more time dog hunting than coon hunting.
