i would get it treeing on coons before i broke it off trash. might break it off everything doing it now

Posted by dean jamerson on 07-16-2012 08:28 PM:

I would let a 6 month old run whatever there heart desires. Once they get older and have a few coons under there belt as far as treeing them then I would try to break them. Alot of the junk like rabbits they'll quit on there on. The last thing I would want to do is take the hunt and drive out of a 6 month old pup.

hx4 kinda. I would let her run anything she wants right now but I would have her wearing that tritronics collar every single time I turned her loose. That way when you finally do decide to juice her a little sbe won't have a clue what shocked her. One of the biggest training mistakes you can make is letting your dog get collar smart. If the first time you strap a shock collar on a dog is also tbe first time you shock em, even a dumb dog can figure out they only have to behave when tne collar is on.

I start dogs with trained straight dogs. I don't mind one mee tooing alot to start , in fact that is what I want and expect. As far as trashing or lieing on a tree , that is completely unacceptable. There is no excuse for that behavior.

You want one to me 2 but not run trash.... Smh

Posted by Ron Ashbaugh on 07-31-2012 01:51 PM:

I have been very lucky with dogs that haven't been bad on trash. The way I look at is that I don't much care what a young dog is doing as long as they are getting hooked at the end and not leaving the country to do it. A good % never get past the point that worrying about whats in between really comes into play.

Ever Dog I've had that was a good one started running rabbits on its on around my house and started treeing on its on if a did starts that me tooing that's it I'm finished with it.... And a did that learns to run a rabbit is a tracking fool rabbits are hard to run... most will stop running junk once you kill some coon to them

Yes , it's not hard for me to figure. When I turn dogs loose I want him to go 2. And tag along 2 if can't smell it 2 and swim a creek 2. And hang around the tree 2. and get his mouth on it 2 and follow me out 2 and load up behind them 2 or if I have to call them back across a river I want him to come out 2. No need for him to go off running trash cause he don't have no reason 2 do it 2. But he does not have to yap on a tree 2 if he doesn't know why he would be yapping yet. That's mee too.

Hanging a deer leg on a electric fence and letting the dog find it all on their own will go a long way towards curing this. My three year old and six year old have never run deer and my ten year old ran three in his life[ two were started by my sons walker and mine came back and told on her]. Wrap it in wire and let the dog find it. It really takes the desire outa catching a deer.

The best everlasting way I know of is to get a dog that is thouroghly broke and I do mean thoroughly. One so broke it will come in and tell on a trash runner or pick up the coon track and join in. Keep that dog till he dies , I think they can comunicate in the pen in the off season. LOL. Knock on wood but it must be able to transfer on down from generation to generation and even to decent other breeds. I can't even remember a possum in the last ten years or a deer. Good luck I had was two years ago with a puppy that stumbled on an armadillo and chased it 50 feet back to me and it never said a word just sight chased but i put the fear of God in it will never forget. Some might say that kind of punishment will keep a dog from running anything for the rest of his life but I don't care. I won't tolerate a dog that might think about starting my next pup on trash. If I was rough on him then he better get over it because I just don't tolerate trash messers. Ya'll that train pups one at a time have other Ideas and I can appreciate that. But after all these years of training with good honest broke dogs , if for some reason I had to go back to training a pup by himself from scratch I'm sure I would hang it up.

I learned a trick in selling insurance that when somebody says something outrageous, to repeat it back to them so they can hear with their own ears how dumb it sounds. LOL

Come in and tell on a trash runner? So you want it to come in and get mminused on track? While the trash runner falls off on a coon and wins? Wow! so you can go home bragging saying I lost to a trash runner but boy in proud of my Dog for coming back

I have a saying that would apply to some of the people that post on these forums:
IT'S AMAZEING HOW MUCH MORE YOU CAN ACCOMPLISH WITH COMMON SENSE,THAN YOU CAN WITH A DEGREE, GIVEN TO YOU BY SOMEONE WITHOUT ANY!
Just an opinion, mine.
