How many times have you whipped the pup and sent it on to finish the track?

When a pup first starts it is usually the most accurate time of its life....Unless you trained them to slick, I cant imagine them just starting out that way.

If you're sure that it's not there send him on. Pup needs to be taught right from wrong just like any youngster. Don't give up on one that hasn't had a chance to learn yet. Good luck with your pup.

Your situation is hopeless as long as you stick to that train of thought. You can tell when they miss. Do something about it.

The most accurate dogs ive seen made alot slicks when young...with hunting you will learn that pups distinct locate for when that pup has a coon and when he doesn't . They do in fact tell on themselves.

id hunt creek lines, fence rows and small patch woods with a light canopy that way you can find the coon...or not but at least you know.

bull treed a kitten last yr about this time its eyes were green
where it wasnt developed yet.i seen it going in and it took
3 of us 15- 20 min. to find it never did look at the light again.
be careful on your methods kittens have messed a bunch up.

For me its time to give up when i find myself feeling like its a waste of time taking the shiteater to the woods.Thats probably why i dont fool with pups..

you give up when u feel that u have done everything in ur power to do wat needs to be done. but if he is good and solid on the wood a good switch wont hurt him at all

Ur crazy if you don't hunt the dog all kill season with a switch in one hand and a rifle in the other and then evaluate. Likely 85% of the people on this board would be tickled to have a dog that was treeing consistent at 11 months old.

If you can flip the switch he will be tough to beat. Wait until the crops come on and we get a little moisture on the ground. Rignt now is nto ideal running conditions for a young dog. If your sure he is slick take a switch and let him know your not happy and send him right from the tree. This may take time but I assure you if the dog has the desire to tree he could be something special.

O he ain't scared to tree. There for awhile he was getting stuck on tracks until the other night he got bogged down for twenty minutes or so I was working towards him. He shut up and ten minutes later he was treed a MILE DOWN Idk about him haven't hunted him much cuz of it being dry

Most every young dog I've ever fooled with was a accurate son of a gun when they start treeing. The slicks come later. I wouldn't know what to do either. You sure he's after coon? Id not give up just yet.

most dogs starting out are dead accurate. i would scold him off the slick and cut him right there. is he wind treeing or really settled on a tree? and if you got kittens they may be all over them trees so he thinks he is right. not sure what to advise in this situation. good luck.

id wait till full and be carrying a rifle and a switch
