minus quistion

dogs cast and strike rite in front of truck. go out about 100-150yards, and get quiet, then one comes back by the truck on the same track they went in on but doesn't open again until she passes the truck about 30yards, and trees about 100yards past the truck. she got minused on track. but I feel like she originaly struck on the back end of track and turned around and found the coon. the clock did not catch the dog to get her minused. Should she have been minused for leaving a track or plussed for finding the coon on the other end of it.

Hard to say without being there. If the dog just worked past no minus, but if it stopped to check out the handlers MINUS.

dog was on fire when she came buy, she just didn't bark on the way back out to the truck until she got past it. It was my buddy's dog. I told him i didn't feel she should have been minused but I could see where the judge had a reason to because she shut up and came back out. The dog was running the track backwards to start and turned around and got treed. It just so happend the truck was in the middle.

If the dog never stopped it can in no way be minused for quitting a track unless the 8 catches it which it did not. Crooked judge/handlers that seen an opportunity to get a dog minused and capatalized on it. The same exact thing happened to me in a hunt last night with my mouse dog. Struck her 400 yards away or so and we were walking along a corn field and here she came trotting right by us and bam treed a coon shortly after she went by us.

? you figure the coon she treed was the same coon you struck her 400 yards away on? If she trotted back 400 yards to the cast she deserved her minus..

Well john there were coon all over around that corn field, young ones running wild. 2 different dogs came and ran by us. Guess everytime a dog runs by the cast along a corn field they should be minused. I can't say she treed the coon i struck her on same as you can't say she didnt. All i know is she got under a coon and that's all I care about.

I know by the rules your dog gets a pass, just wanted to see if id get an honest answer.. if you dont know the difference all those nights you spend in the woods have been wasted.

ya theres know reason to get hasty bout a dog still hunting we was just in her way...now if she would have stopped or even hesitated i woulda thrown all the minus you can handle. lol

I'm pretty sure in my buddy's case, it was the same coon he struck her on, considering thats the only tree made on that drop.

I would be the same way Cody. Mouse makes me angry time to time but one thing she doesn't do is come into me. Usually I can't beg her to come to me if she's not treed. Lol

A bit of info that wasn't said John was that we walked over that track before we ever turned loose and went past it 100 yards or so then we walked back across it after we cut the dogs. On our way to skunk skinners tree we walked that same edge and mouse ran by us and got treed shortly after.

You can tell if a dogs quit usually or coming into cast. Its a judgement call for the judge. If I think it needs minused. Im gonna do it. Stopping has nothing to do with it in my book. You can always get a cast vote and question it and take it back to the club house. Your not gonna like the outcome though lol.

stopping has everything to do with it.... quitting a track is what has nothing to do with it.... you cant minus for passing the cast they have to come in not by..... they can quit 10 tracks and as long as they dont come into cast or the time catch them they are good

yep. Imagine the utter caos it would cause if people were allowed to just vote on dogs quitting tracks.

They are allowed to. Plus let's say my dog strikes a cast in a creek 200 yards above us. We are standing in a field and 200 yards below us another dog strikes. Here in a min I hear a dog coming toward us. Shine light and its my dog. Comes right through us looking around ears perked up listening for dog that struck 200 yards below us. Never stopped but its not tracking. I don't care if you minus me because its obvious my dog quit its track to go to other dog. Does the rule say the dog must stop somewhere??

If only it were so.... I gave it a try one night, we turned loose on a dirt road and the dogs got split 2 in the block behind got struck on a bad track and my dog and another got struck a couple hundred in front of us. The two behind finally quit, came out, trotted up the road a ways and then mee tooed into my dog. I minused them and one guy questioned it. We had a cast vote and the minus stayed on the card with a ?
When we got back to the clubhouse the MOH. overturned the minus, he said no matter how obvious it was they cant be minused unless they come into the cast. It stinks but thats the way the rule is worded.

Yep, John is right. Doesn't matter if they are tracking or not. Doesn't matter if you see one hear another dog bark, spin around on it's heels and run through a parking lot with it's head up to switch tracks and cover the other dog unless it actually quit the track AND CAME IN to the cast then it can not be minused.

That is not "coming by" the cast, or "getting around the cast", thats COMING IN TO the cast.

That's just the way it is.

I don't know how relevant this is, Rip and John and few others have answered this one as it pertains to UKC, but in PKC , they minus them for quitting a track and you seldom hear it questioned. Purty much if you can hear them busting brush, the judge throws a light on them. They better be hard at work on a track or they get the pencil. Again, seldom heard it questioned.

I dont think all of these issues are caused by cheating judges,I think alot of it is caused by judges not knowing the rules.

What if one comes close and I snap my finger and it stops. Can I minus it then lol. Usually most will wait on it to stop before minusing it but lots have quit their track whether we want to admit it or not. Id say in the first post. It should not have been minused.
