Let us know how easy it goes with the dogs.
Ain't nothing to em. Im sure it will go well. Ours went smooth as silk. Course only one dog passed outta 7. We are sure going to have another but Id rather wait till cool weather and less leaves.

iv been to a few they seemed to go well...i will admit the leaves are a pain, but if theres really a coon in the tree it shouldnt matter to much...although some trees are near impossible to shine with the dang leaves on....
rules are pretty simple...hunt for an hour tree coons without faulting out and have fun...
good luck hope your hound passes

It's summer here too and leafy, but I still liable to catch an eye 100 yards before I get to the tree. So my question is, Is, is it like a comp hunt and you can't look before the dog is "handled" ? Ya'll sure begging to miss alot of coons doing it that way. I was thinking HTX ain't even got to be "Handled", am I wrong?

It helps when the handlers bring a buddy.
The problem we have been having at our club is inspectors. If each handler would bring a buddy along, they could inspect another dog and get everyone done in one round. I have yet been able to enter a dog, because I have been having to inspect two rounds each time.

I could be 100 % wrong but I don't recall seeing in the rules where the dog must handled first. I think if you can prove that your dog is on the tree the coon is in it shouldn't matter when you shine for these type hunts. Although they can be faulted for not being able to handle them at tree.
( this is according to th rule sheet the club gave me that I been goin to to hunt)

Why not do it a round robin way. Handler A inspects handler B, B inspects C and C inspects A. This way you would get to enter a dog and all 3 handlers would still be within the rules.

quote:Congratulations! Please tell us about the test. Was there ever a time when time was a factor? Was there a time when you were worried about a possible fault? Did anything happen that might have got you in trouble in a comp hunt such as meeting you a little off the tree, for example. Or was it just go strike and tree a couple in the hour? Any details would be appreciated.

First one for the club and 7 dogs showed, not to bad considering iv been to a couple hunts this year that didnt draw that many. I think they had 4 pass, not sure because i left before the last group was in. They used 3 club members as inspectors. 2 of the guys took 2 dogs each and the third group had 3. The times are a bigger factor than in a regular hunt because theres no other dogs to break the clock. I hunted first and it took about 30 minutes to get struck, its hot and dry here and the co0ns seem to be movin late.My dog is pretty tight on track normally and even tighter as dry as its been so the 8 was runnin a couple times. He pecked around for 2o minutes or so and got treed. He wasnt sure and quit to check himself a couple times but the 2 never got him. We went in and got lucky the inspector found his coon in a big leafy tree. I figure that coon was down late afternoon for a drink. These hunts allow for alot more laughing and ball busting because you dont have 4 guys having to listen in 4 different directions. I got to see an old huntin buddy that i hadnt seen in about 25 years and that kind of thing is worth more to me than the pass. Lots of good old storys and fun for the kids that tagged along.
I like these hunts and would recommend everyone give them a try, You can hunt some spots that you wouldnt turn a cast loose, you get to see other dogs hunt alone, and it makes for a much more laid back pleasure type hunt that lets you work toward a title.
One more thing about these hunts.... They eliminate about 90% of the good excuses everyone uses. Im working on some new ones.
