OT Any banjo pickers on here?

Just wondering if anybody on here plays banjo? I've started it recently. It's really fun but it definitely isn't very easy. Hopefully one day I'll get good an buy a Gibson or a Huber.

I use to pick and grin, but I was better at grinning...

Steve Dilling of IIIrd Tyme Out lives nearby, he can tear it up. I have heard him on a few of my visits to Zepp's Country Music Store. Donald Zepp can also play well, though it's mostly the open back clawhammer/frailing style.

You should join the Banjo Hangout, they have a forum where you can learn LOTS...

Good luck with your banjo playing, I love the Huber and the Cox brands as they are largely american made...I always picked a cheap double eagle Harmony, I regret selling it.

Yeah I get on there from time to time. I know all the rolls and a few songs. I should probably take a few lessons since I can't read music and that seems to hold me back a little. But I learn really well by ear

I play in open G. I pick Scruggs style but I can play claw hammer style some also. I don't know about a fiddle though. They don't have any frets. Haha. Man of constant sorrow is a pretty easy song to learn on banjo though. I like to learn new licks and put stuff together that sounds good and have fun with it

Thanks Ron. I really enjoy the military. I just hate not being able to hunt while I'm on sea duty. Haha. But it's worth it. It's the most rewarding job I've ever had and I'm looking at doing at least 20 years

Banjo

My 14 year old son got a banjo for Christmas. He does really well on it. He watches Banjo Ben on You Tube. He can pretty much play whatever he sees him play. He started on the guitar when he was 8. He plays everything by ear. Keep pickin Cody, God bless and thanks for your service to our country.
