Stud Dog Challenge???

Who would be interested in finding out who the biggest and badest stud dog in the land is? I would be, i think it would be a fun event. They had one in the late 90's for the fox hunters. It turned out to be a great event as it was played up really well with a little trash talking and stuff between the competitors. Here is how they did it...each stud dog entered in the competition was also accompanied by two of their offspring (doesn't have to owned by the same person just has to be out of the "stud dog") The trio of dogs with the highest total score win the hunt, and their sire is the winner of the stud dog challenge, you could also give awards for the overall high scoring dog, and highest scoring stud dog. There would have to be some changes made so it would fit coon hunting rather than fox hunting but i think it could be done rather easily and it would have a pretty big draw. Maybe have like qualifiers for all the breed and then have one big hunt with all the 6 breed winners or take the top 5 current reproducers as listed in the Coon Hound Bloodlines Magazine to get the dogs eligable to compete. I don't know if this could be done but I think it would be an awesome event. What do you guys think?

Throw in non hunting judges and no paid/pre-picked/special guides and also do it before the leaves come back on and it would be a great thing. Oh yes, and no circle tree points. SHow the coon or take your minus.

I'd like to see something like this to. It'd be fun. But only about 25% of these stud dogs would show up.

Have a stud dog challenge but dont make it a regular hunt. Make it a charity event where people pay money to see any particular stud dog get out in the woods with no other dogs at all and no feeder buckets and tree some real live wild coons with no help from other dogs. Call it the Stud dog solo Charity event. Lots of money would get raised to a worthy cause and you could get some great exposure on your coondog/studdog. Nearly all the adds claim all the same stuff. Lets see who are me-too dogs and who are real coondogs with a get in the dark mentality and some real tracking ability and coonfinding sense to show us some coons.

Sheep, Princess's daddy aint gonna take her. He wants pups that stay under pressure and dont tree possumes.

Posted by larrypoe on 03-07-2006 12:54 AM:

Add the dam part also. Maybe Ferrari will let me take Queen or Ten. Heck Hanna also, one of her pups won Ntch at the winter classic. Huck might have a problem finding his 2 too hunt with him, alot of his pups are now stud dogs in there own right.

O ya i forgot the females. Huck could take JJ or Rosebud,a ton of others.

If I was a coon I wouldn't go in a trap either if I had the whole bucket!!LOL!!!

Some club, or breeder, or breed org. ought to run with this idea.

I like the charity thing too. Just about everything I do, I do it to feed hungry children.....MINE!!!!! LOL

I was just hackin on ya sheep. didnt meen anything by it. My old Pride dog couldnt stand pressure unless it was a layup coon. Thats why I ended up selling him. Treed hundreds of coon with him alone though. Also trained a few pups. Funny thing was you couldnt pull him off a layup coon with a crowbar, let him run a track and he was gone the first time another dog barked. Freakin mutt, he had several 2nd place wins though and tied for 1st 3 times. One night I scored 775+ 175 circle and 50-. lost the tie breaker.

still say somebody or some club should get this thing in the works

Jess Dickerson used to have a stud dog hunt over here by the house. I really enjoyed it. Be 25 trucks parked on the road listening to dogs go one at a time. Skipper, X jr, the Sackett dogs.......etc. It was a fantastic time.
