Buckeye Bud

So sorry to hear about John Walkup's Buckeye Bud dog. He had to put him down.
They were a class act. Bud was the 99 pkc world champion.
Hope you come up with another one just as good John.

why was he put down?

Posted by Tracey Fincher on 02-21-2006 03:20 PM:

Bud offered some good traits to the Plott Breed. I would like to own a dog like Bud. I’m sure Mr. John will find him another winner. I have hunted with him several times when looked good. He has some good pups out there…

Man that is the pits. I am sure John is going to miss Bud.

If you are talking about my Budro, Yes, he is a bit older than a pup. And he has a home for life. :-) He will soon start his PKC career. We will see if Budro can keep up with his daddy and his daughter.

From someone outside the Plott breed looking in, it looks to me like Bud was the best thing to happen to nite hunt Plotts in a very long time. Hope Mr Walkup has semen stored. This is a great loss to the Plott breed.

Posted by Tracey Fincher on 02-21-2006 09:44 PM:

Susan get him qualified and come on up to PKC Plott Days. It shouldn't take but a couple of hunts...

Posted by KAW1023 on 02-21-2006 10:10 PM:

Bud was a real dog and yes he was ONE of the best things to happen to competition bred plotts there wont be many more plotts like ol Bud....

Sorry to hear about this loss. Hopefully his offspring will carry on his legacy. My condolences to the Walkup family.

I hated to hear of this, I have hunted with John many years some here and there and John and his wife Rita are first class people. It was great when John and Bud won the PKC world hunt, could not of happened to a nicer guy!!! And after he won it he was just as humble as one could be! I hope he gets another he will be proud of!!!

not true...he may have slowed down...but he has not quit!you can find him on the pkc board and he still has plotts that can get the job done!!!

The loss of Bud is a loss for the Plott breed. Glad to hear that John kept an eye out for the future by storing semen.

Thanks to everyone for their kind words on Bud....everyone likes to brag on dead dogs even me........however ole Bud never was retired and enjoyed taking folks out for an evening of fun.......I hated to loose him at such a young age but it wasn't to be for him to live any longer.....he was making such a nice housedog....I haven't been on this board for sometime so thought I would drop in and say hi!

I haven't completely quit huntin', just slowed down a mite....Jeff Thompson is hunting my Dixie for me at this time, so am getting in some good family time.........Jeff & Dixie will be at the PKC Nationals June 15th thru June 17th.......after that he will be making a run for the PKC Plott Championship(Tracey you better get busy)

While coonhound events in general are slowing down in all registrys, I am proud to say that the Plott Breed is picking up in the PKC events........We have 16 qualified plotts already for the PKC Plott Days Event to be held at Cardington OH this coming November.....The Plott Breed is still open for more competition, so come on out and join us.......the other breeds think we are simple because our breed gets along so good..........

The Walkup household is open the week previous to PKC PLOTT DAYS to all Plott hunters.........I will have several guides set up this year for pleasure hunting.....Come on up and show us what you got..........If what you are hunting is out of or kin to ole Bud, I would like to get pics for "Buds Wall of Fame".......

I would especially like to get to hunt with this dog called "BUDRO" as I have heard a lot of good things about him!

I have been hunting in a few UKC events this spring, might hunt in a couple this fall........

Thanks for waking me up all!

Budro and I would love to come up for a hunt with the Walkup household. I am still hoping to get him qualified for PKC Plott days. I have never hunted PKC, so this will be a new adventure for me and Budro both. If not this year, maybe next. We are still both worn out from traveling the country last year in the Purina Race.

Long Ears,

Come on up, coaching is free up here...lol......if Budro is like his Daddy(everyone has said he is) it won't take you long to get qualified. If not qualified for this years event, come on up and get an early start for next year.......the coon zoo is always open up here for some dog exercise.....

sorry

Sorry to hear about Bud. I was competition hunting plotts at the time he won. The guys I hunted with were walker men. They just knew I was going to rub their nose in it when a plott won the world hunt. I was nice most of the time and didn't do too much rubbin. I too, had to put my plott dog down in the last week and plan to replace it with a plott towards the end of the summer. My son is hooked on them and My Dad has a pup he got off of Bill Riddick from Illinois. I was planning on using my old dog to train my Dad's pup. Now I will have to find something else. Good luck to John and all other plott hunters out there.
