Choice of breed
If someone were to line up the six breeds in front of you and said you could have your choice except for your first chosen breed what would it be? For the sake of argument all six are from great bloodlines. I'm a Plott man, so I would have to pick the Walker. I grew up with them and have seen my share of pretty fair Walkers.
Man
that was a hard decision, cuz hubby has Walkers & I have English. Don't get me wrong, I love any good dog, but if I couldn't pick my own breed, I would have to say my next best would be a Bluetick! Love them speckled dogs!

Black and Tans
I hunt Blueticks, but if I had something else, it would be a toss-up between English and Black and Tans.

If I couldn't hunt Plotts any more I would go with a Hardwood Bozo bred Walker I guess, or I might just go all Curs, Kemmer's and Tellico Curs!!!!! But for now thank god for these Crockett/Porterfield & Pocahontas Plotts....hehehehe

IF ALL THE ROWDY BRED DOGS DIED FROM SOME MYSTERIOUS VIRUS, I WOULD GO BACK TO BLACK DOGS. WHEN I GOT INTO PLOTTS I HAD A COUPLE OF GOOD BLACK DOGS. ONE OUT OF OAKCHIA LUCY AND COAL MTN MORK THE OTHER OUT OF LANDRUMS RAINBOW AND A RAGIN HOSS FEMALE. BUT OH HOW I HOPE THAT MYSTERIOUS VIRUS COMES.
my main breeding program is
with the old house blood treeing walkers, but i have walkers/bluetick/plott/redbone here now and have owned all of the 6 breeds of hound.....if i had to make a list of 1 thru 6 and someone else picked the dog out of the breed for me to hunt and feed .i'd go in this order..
1
lott
2:bluetick
3:redbone
4:english
5:b/t
6:walker
why??
it seems the overall breeders of the dog breeds in this order are the ones to most likely to cull the the dogs with no hunting ability ,and as to the last one"walkers" with the least culling because of the show circut.
overall one of the best young dogs i had was a 1 yr old saddleback plott male dog.he had a medium nose and when the old walkers warmed it up to where he could smell it.he would take the track away from them and mr.coon was going to climb or get caught.he would leave the other dogs behind like a grayhound running on sight, which he wasn't cause we hunted in a lot of tree tops.

English
My choice...
Currently I hunt Blueticks but, if I were to hunt another breed it would be English. Just the redtick ones. Probably some of the Wilcox line or Woodstock dogs.

Making them Walker Dawgs Nervous..........
I love all hounds. I just can't resist those long, floppy ears and big ole feet! But, since we breed Blueticks and English... that's a tough decision. I guess my first choice would be Bluetick since that was the first hound I ever owned. Second choice would be English. Third would be black and tans.

I have a 2nd breed of dogs, Mt Curs. I just mainly squirrel hunt with mine but I have seen some great Cur coondogs. Sauer's Rex could compete with anyone's Grand Nite Champion.

If I had to turn away my blue dogs I'd go with Redbone. had a good one a few yaers back and really like the looks of a reddog
Love my Walkers
But I am going to get 2 Old Fashion Bluetick. Yep the Gascon! I am a walker fan all my life but I want to try those something new.
I vote others but you dont have the selection for it. So I will save my vote!!
DLL
If I couldnt have my Black dogs,
If I couldnt have my Black and Tans, I would settle for a good ole Treeing Walker, they are very nice.

Well I hunt both Plotts and Walkers ( both tied for number 1) so 2ed would have to be a red dog
