-- How many feed Diamond and lost a dog in last 2 months?? (http://forums.ukcdogs.com/showthread.php?threadid=74967)
How many feed Diamond and lost a dog in last 2 months??
How many of the people on here have been feeding Diamond and have lost a dog, for one reason or another in the last few months??? I seems to me that alot of people in the weeks before Diamond figured out they had a problem, that more than a dozen people on this board alone had dogs die for no reason... just wanted to see how many there really were....
Go ahead and click yes if you know someone who has lost a dog...
(This is in no way against Diamond dog food. It is just a simple poll on how many of our hunting dogs were lost...)

Mathew you might want to ask how many people have lost or have buddies that have lost dogs to Diamond.
I have 2 buddies that lost hounds to Diamond and talked to another last night with a sick pup due to Diamond.. Not to Bash the company by any means. I been calling the guys I know that might be feeding Diamond to inform them of the flaw in the food.

Feeding Diamond
I think you should add to your poll how many have been feeding diamond and your dog is heathy and doing fine. I think it is great that people may have caught that some dogs where dieing due to a feed problem by seeing a trend and they help put a stop to it. But I also dont think it is fair to hang Diamond before we see how they respond to the problem and see how they correct thier mistakes. I have been feeding Diamond for over a year and I will keep feeding the feed as long as they make it right for all the dogs that were effected by the problem. If 30,000 people are feeding the feed and very happy with it, and say 20 dogs died from it, and they make things right with the dog owners that lost dogs and they correct what ever caused the problem. Than I think we should all stand behind Diamond, and keep feeding a very good feed.

WELL...
SINCE WE ONLY HAD ONE AUTOPSIED, WE CAN ONLY SAY WE'VE LOST ONE TO DIAMOND.
BUT OUR BUDDY MIKE STEPP HAS LOST ONE, AND HAS HAD ONE AT THE VET FOR A WEEK AND A HALF.
THE VETS ORIGINALLY THOUGHT IT WAS ANTIFREEZE POISONING, BUT WHEN ALL THIS ABOUT DIAMOND CAME OUT, THEY FOUND IT'S FROM THE DOG FEED.

My Grandad had some dogs get sick and lost some pups .....he said it was some bad feed even before this stuff came up and the owner of the feed store has been a real jerk about it and Diamond aint impressing me none either.
if Diamond knew they had a problem with their feed and didn't put out a recall or warn any one to be on watch. then they are low scum, to most people a good hound can not be replaced. every one should stop buying immediatly and not take a chance of their hound dieing over night. any one who keeps feeding the feed is an idiot. even one hound is too many to lose because they[ Diamond ] kept selling something they knew was bad.

I was lucky and my feed store evidently doesn't get their feed from the Gadsden plant even though we are in Tennessee.
My brother lost a stock dog pup and another one almost died.
My old Yorkie got sick when we were on a visit to their place, had the bloody diarrhea for 3 days or so. We came close to losing him.
He had several bags that were contaminated, mostly it gave his dogs diarrhea, it killed the young ones.
We have both used Diamond since the 80's and have never before had any problems and no other feed can match the performance. Since every other dog food company out there has had this to happen I ain't switching from such a great feed due to one incident.
Now if I find out this was something they intentionally ignored or somthing like that then I will switch to Black Gold (it's as close to Diamond as I have ever found). Otherwise I will be thankful that none of mine were killed and continue to try and provide them with the best feed possible.

Diamond Dog Food
HI All!
We have called Diamond Dog Food directly. Only the bags that were made in the Gaston, SC plant are the ones on the recall. If you check your bag and look at the "Best Before" Code, if it has an MN on it, your bag came out of Missouri. If your Code has a "G" in it, your bag came out of SC-these are the recalled bags. This information has come directly from Diamond Dog Food. You can call the toll free number on the bag, that is who we got the information from. Our condolences to all you with ill/lost dogs.

Recall Form for Diamond Dog Food
Sorry about not posting this in the earlier reply. Diamond Dog Food Rep said the fastest way to get a claim checked into is to fill out the form on this link:
http://www.diamondpet.com/DiamondPet/recall/contact.php
They asked that you keep as much of the food as possible and the label from the bag of feed.
Hope this helps

Had a good friend from Texas visiting on Nov.17. He got a call from his son that night, he told him 2 of the three dogs he had kenneled at his farm were dead. They had vomited all over the pen and had bloody stool. The third one was sick, but pulled out of it. He didn't give the feed (Diamond High Energy) much consideration. thought he may have poisoned them hisself with disinfectant (he uses bleach). He has his son dispose of the dogs. Autopsy never crossed his mind. He had a buddy that had a hound that got sick around the same time with the same symptoms. His buddy took his to the vet and he diagnosed him with a liver infection. Took three weeks, but he finally got over it. He also feeds Diamond (different store, but probably the same distributer. They live about 20 miles apart). I was in Texas last week when this story broke. I looked through what bags he had left, but all were from MO plant. He probably wont call Diamond just because he feels he doesn't have much of a case. What are ya'lls opinion, Do you think it was the feed? I'm not against Diamond. Do you think some of the bad stuff could have made it to East Texas?

Went to my local feed store tonight and he said that he had over 100 bags brought back in this past week, most were half empty or more, he reimbersed everyone for the bags anyway. He said he was done selling Diamond, only because of the way they are handling this whole mess.
anyone having a problem all u got to do is call 866-214-6945. if u got any of this feed with the bad bar codes and dates take it back to where u bought it they will make it good they will also make good any empty sacks u return. if ur dog is sick take it to the vet and if it has this liver problem they will pay vet bill if u lose any dogs to this they will pay the worth of the dog. now with all the crooks out there now a days u must know u gonna have to prove u fed this feed and the dog had this problem then u will have to prove the worth of the dog if u lose it. they put the recall out as soon as they found out they had a problem. so far i dont see where they can do any more than they r doing as long as they do what they say they will do. and yes i feed diamond feed i have tried every feed there is or has been in SC for last 30 yrs. and i like diamond the best i buy 2 tons a month guess i am lucky as no dogs here r sick and they have ate close to 1 ton of the feed with the bad codes on them a ton (country valvue) a month goes to the feeder barrles. i took back around a ton of feed and they told me if i had any empty sacks they would make them good also just so happens i dont thow much away. maybe this will help some who dont no what to do or where to call
Thanks to this message board, I knew about the problem 2 days before my feed store did. When I mentioned it to them they called Diamond but it was another full day before Diamond even mentioned to them to pull the product, they had already pulled the product based on what was reported here on this site. Thanks.

My family owns a feed store that sells Diamond. We saw it on the news and the internet before we were contacted by Diamond. I still consider Diamond a very good dog food. I think if they survive this, the quality control measures will certainly improve.

We've fed Diamond for over 2 yrs. now, switched from Purina but recently switched back to Purina.
Diamond has done a horrible job with this! They certainly drug their feet when they found out about it. I thought for sure our feed store would have known about this by now, but found out today that they were never contacted by Diamond. We lost one young female due to this and had two others get sick. Of coarse we will not know for some time what the long term effects of this are on these guys.
My family also shows alpacas and had this happen nearly 2 yrs. ago with a feed. Dozens of farms lost animals, some lost animals worth over $40,000. The company IMMEDIANTLY recalled all foods, contacted distributors, called farms, and had it published in newspapers and on the air. They took an active stance and admitted their mistake to prevent it from happening to other animals.
What a difference $$$ makes. To bad my dog wasn't worth 50K, maybe then they would have acted quicker.
I heard it on the radio news last week. Seems to me Diamond acted as quickly as it could. If "Sportstalk" in Knoxville knew about it last week then I am sure the stores that were affected by it knew. If the Knoxville radio station had it in their news breaks then most other news outlets had the information available. It's not Diamond's fault if they didn't report it if the news was availably (and it was or the Knoxville station wouldn't have had it).
Heck my feed store was clean, they don't get any feed from SC, theirs comes from MN since their distributor is out of Western KY. They knew about it even though they never sold any of the bad food. If they told them then they likely told all their distributors.

If you don't think it dosen't happen to all the dog food makers think again, I found recalls in Purina, Pedigree, O'l Roy and many others for the same things.
example:
Purina Recalls Pet Food
February 19, 2005
Nestle Purina voluntarily has recalled all of the pet-food products made at its plant in Venezuela after discovering toxins in the food.
According to the St. Louis Post Dispatch:
The problem is limited to Purina's La Encrucijada plant, its only facility in Venezuela. None of the food was sold in the United States. The recall includes about 10 brands; all the products are dry pet foods.
Nestle Purina PetCare discovered the problem after veterinarians contacted the food maker and complained of sick animals. The company launched an internal investigation and confirmed the problem on Feb. 3.
J.Johnson and Dogwood English you guys don't have a clue you are the type to bash someone when they are down. You can bet the quality control will be super strict from now on but talk to anyone that knows animal feeds you will always have some degree of mold in corn.
Gary Woods if you need help getting compensated maybe I can get you in touch with someone to help and give you some suggestions. I feel real bad for the folks that lost dogs.
