bluetick question

I was told by a coonhound rescue person that female blueticks tend to get agressive around 2-3 years of age. What do you all think?

Thanks for your input,
Erica

that person

was either trying to miss lead you or was sadly misinformed my family has raised bred and trained Bluetick hounds for four going on five genrations .if this were true I kinda think we would have
noticed it . While I will tell you that a dog being mean is a trait that the dog was born with and thier is nothing you can do to keep one that was born that way from being mean it is wrong to make a blanket statment that all dogs of a certain breed or sex are in fact mean .I also belive that for the most part hound's in genral are in fact less likely to be be mean then outher types of dog's as most hound owners won't put up with that type of dog no one is going to hunt with you if your dog is eating up everything in the woods and hunting by yourself gets old real quick so most hound owner want a dog that is very even tempered and freindly.

Thank you

I really appreciate all the input-we have been looking hard at bluetick female pups, and had not heard anything of the sort. Now, this statement was from a rescue person-so I am sure she sees the worst of the worst anyway. I am so relieved to hear from breed experts (at least experienced if not experts! LOL)

Guess we can comfortably keep on looking!

any other opinions on this? So far I have heard good things about blue dogs, but have an english rescue (1 1/2 yrs old) in my home that won't stop fighting with my dominant 9 yr old male. We do NOT want to raise up a dog for 2-3 yrs just to have it " all of a sudden" become agressive.

Thanks-Erica

I get these Emails all the time from groups wanting info about rescue of Bluetick coonhounds...........and 99% of the time they are not even Blueticks, yes they might have some hound in them but for the most part I look at it like this and I know it may sound harsh but I've never been to politicaly correct anyway

Resue to me = CULL, someone did not have the guts to do what was needed, most times it comes from their upbringing or training which mounts to nothing and they think these coon hounds will just lay by the fire place and be good ordaments.

I've had females for over 20 years, have 3 right now that play on our place here with my 20 month old grandson and they will run right up to him, slam on the brakes and give him a little lick to get him going and off they go again.

My last response to one of these goups for their problems was a coonhound was wanting to fight with their family dog all the time, and they did not want to put it down, rather they wanted to find it another home ??????????? I told them to cull it put it down and do themselves and the next person that would get this dog the trouble of having to deal with it later down the road.

I would also venture to say that a LARGE portion of these supposedly coonhounds are not full blooded and are mix and these folks don't know the differance.

I once had a women bring me a german short hair claiming it to be a Bluetick Coonhound, untill I showed her what one really looked like she thought that they looked like what she brought me .......and it was a rescue dog from a local shelter ?????

See what I mean ???????

COONHOUND RESCUE PERSON......Think of how many dogs that have been rescued and are mistreated no matter it be a bluetick or what. In my opinion they have become aggressive to survive and to get to eat they more than likely were forced in being a little ill. I would take the information from these rescue people and no doubt delete it from my mind. If you are loooking at the rescue dog squad to get your female or females from.......... you are cutting yourself short of any real bluetick blood
