North East Texas, lookin for help....

I am in North East Texas. I have a 7 month old pup I am startin. This is my first time with hounds. I come across a fresh road kill and I am workin her on tha hide. She likes it and gets after it but is silent. When i pull it up a tree she will set and look at it but is silent. She will even walk away from it if she cant get back ahold of it.
Anyone in this area have a hound they woluld be willin ta bring out or let me bring mine to you so she can be with an experienced hound and see what she is suposed ta do.
I will get a live trap soon as I get tha money up. In tha mean time I am doin with what I have. Lookin for help and sugestions. Thanks.

the deal with a live coon in a trap might get the pup excited. Above all else remember the pup is VERY young. Dont give up on the pup till its MUCH older.

Sounds about right for that age.

Your average hound pup will do just what you say she is doing. Don't buy into all these threads about early starting pups. Many of these prodigies are indeed starting early but most are extremely well bred usually out of a line of well bred dogs. Also consider the fact that alot of those pups will be burned out or ruint by the time they are two years old either from overexposure to hunting pressure at an early age or thrown into the hunts before they have the mental maturity to handle it.
I may be totally wrong but I tend to think bringing a pup along slow but steady is much better than expecting it to run and tree at an early age. When you do get your trap be careful and do not overexpose the pup to a caged coon. The first time is always a surprise. It may very well get excited and get slobber mouthed or it just might tuck tail and run. More than likely it will be somewhere in between. When it comes to what the pup is ready to learn only you as her owner can determine that. Watch her closely and be critically honest with your assesment.
I got an english gyp here that sounds alot like what you got there. I had tried to push her before I realized I needed to back off some. She is coming along much better now and looks like she'll shape up into a nice little pleasure dog. Good luck with her.

Where at in NE Texas? I live in Jefferson. When the pup gets a little older, chances are you can run him with our older hounds, may get em fired up some! Lemme know where you're at!

Anytime you want to take that pup out, let me know. I am located about 75 miles south of Dallas. We try to get out at least 5-6 nights a week over here. Come on over and we can let him run with my older dog. E-mail me and we will get together
