coon behavior

when do you find coons to be most active ie.early evening,late,full moon -no moon,colder nights or what i've been hunting a corn field and see tracks on the edges and crop damage but can never catch them in or around there.my dog has yet to tree but knows what they smell like and i cant believe she would run over a track .
