What age to sell pups??

My aunt called me today to ask me if I knew by law what age you can sell pups. She is selling pups and told the buyer they can come and get it at 6 weeks. The buyer called the vet too make an appointment for her pup, when she told them the pup will be 6 wks. old the vet wanted to know the name of the breeder because he said it is against the law to let a pup go before 8 wks. and he wants to turn the breeder in.
I told my aunt I would ask around to see if anyone knows this to be true.
Thanks.

A few states, and I don't know which ones, HAVE passed a law you can't sell a puppy until 8 wks. of age.
Personally, we place our puppies at 7 wks of age, which the best books say is the very best time for a puppy to adjust to a new home. This is especially true of our Dalmatians, but also we held to this with our beagles.
7 wks gives the puppy time to adjust to it's new home before the start of the "fear imprint period" which begins at 8 wks. of age.
We NEVER would place a puppy at 6 weeks of age, too young, they need this extra week with their litter and the teachings of their dam and a good male, if you have one good with puppies.
You do need to check your laws, it may be the state she is in requires the 8 weeks of age.
If so, it shouldn't be all that hard for a good breeder to maintain a puppy for another week or two. Especially since shots really should never be given until 6 weeks of age. Vet checks and shots at six weeks, then the puppies should have several days to recouperate from all that medication before changing homes for sure!

My aunt lives in OHIO and the buyer was from Connecticut.
I personally wait til the pups are over 7 weeks, but she called me to ask if I knew of any laws. Thanks

There's where the problem is. According to the USDA you can not transport a pup for sale prior to 8 wks. Since it is across state lines it falls into federal jurisdiction which means the USDA and the Animal Welfare Act (AWA) laws apply.

I like to sell them at 7 - 8 weeks. After the 49th day.
