Man i sure hate to hear that.Larry was one of the greatest guys I have ever met. He sure loved his hounds and hunting. I got alot of good memorys of Mr.Jones. I stopped by and saw him a couple weeks ago and he was feeling pretty bad then. He will truly be missed. Rest in peace My friend.

If everyone was like Larry Jones

"If everyone was like Larry Jones" That is the first thought to come to my mind when I decided to be courageous enough to write down a few of my memories with Larry.
First thing though I want to say is I love this man like a daddy. Lucky for me he has been one of my best friends and hunting partners in my life, and I will always remember him. Larry and I along with countless other good friends have logged mile after mile to hunts for competition and for pure fun. He was one of those people that will never be replaced.
Jones was the real deal. I have so many great memories of hunting, hanging out with or just sitting on back of a tailgate watching his corn grow talking about some hunt or some other crazy thing that happened on a night hunt or later on at the motel. Like this one time, it was either at AO's or WC in Albany, we were in the room asleep, Danny Leonard came in soaking wet and cold... and cut the heat wide open! Well around 4 in morning, Jones wakes up... LOL It was soooo stinking hot in the room! Jones jumps up, breaks the slide latch on the door trying to open it so quick and started fanning cold air in but couldn't say anything cause his mouth was sooo dry! Finally he says "I can't even spit!" LOL
One year at Grand American, Larry and I got seperated from each other and ya'll all know how crowded it is there, Larry had left is phone in the truck so I couldn't call him. I bet I walked that place over for 45 minutes to an hour just looking for that man. I was walking through the biggest dog barn there and I was just about to go out the door there, I heard Jones laugh, clear across the building! Ya'll all know how loud those dog barns are. Anyone who knows Jones, knows that laugh I'm talking about it! Boy he had a distinctive laugh and one I will miss hearing.
Oh yeah and man could he sing... When it was just him and me out hunting I would pester him until he would sing a little of How Great Thou Art for me and other gospel songs. If everyone was like Larry Jones we wouldn't have a need for Lawyers, the judicial system, or wars. (Excluding the middle east cause the Bible tells us it's always gonna be like that there.)
If Larry told you something you could count on it being true. His kind is few and far between these days . I could go on and on about him, I could only hope to ever be the kind of man Larry Jones was..... He loved his Lord, his family and I have never met anyone that loved coon hunting as much as Larry. He was a real gentleman in all aspects of his life and I am so proud and blessed to have been able to call him my friend. If there are coonhounds in Heaven, Larry Jones will have one! And it WILL be a BLUE one.

There will not be a day that passes that I won't miss him. I look forward to seeing my dear friend again when I join him in Heaven. Until that day, I love ya and I'm gonna miss you Larry.

A man couldn't have asked for a better friend and man to hunt with. Back in 2002 I was just getting back into hunting Larry give me a dog and let me get back into what i love going. I'll never forget it. I feel privilleged to have known him and to have called him a friend

Mr. Larry Jones

I was not as fortunte as most of you were to have known Larry for several years and to have lots of memories and stories with him. I only knew Larry a short time but during this time I have heard more hunting stories with his name involved than anyone elses. It is obvious that this man was thought so much of and everyone always seemed to have a much better time with him there which always made him welcome. I know this past year when Larry, Billy, Chris and myself all rode down to the SBA hunt, we had great time and I learned more in the ride down there and the ride back than I have in the past couple years about coonhounds! =) To all of Larry's friends, family and loved ones know that you are in my prayers at this difficult time. May God be with you and comfort you.

If there was ever a true bluetick man jones sure was! He was a great , true friend that i will truly miss . Ill never forget when i was 18 i hadnt known larry very long and it was the weekend before ashland bluetick spring hunt we were at a local hunt larry was talkin about goin to ohio i said boy id like to go , and larry said its good huntin up there , afew days passed and larry called and said u still wantn to go to ashland , i said yeaboys , larry said be here early friday morning everythings paid for but your eats . Boy did we have a ball ! If everyone could be like jones this world would be a better place to live. He would help you any way he could . to those who were closer to him i am truly sorry , and my thoughts and prayers are with all of you .

I met Larry as a young boy where we attended the same church. He was always nice and polite, the perfect gentleman. He was always as good as his word. We kidded a lot about the bluedogs but truth be known, Larry had bluedogs that most hunters would be proud of. If you drew Larry in a hunt, all you had to do was beat his dog, as he just called it the way it was. If he beat you, he would laugh and shake your hand, and if you beat him he would still laugh and shake your hand.
There will never be enough people like Larry in this world and he sure is going to be missed.

Their aren't enough words for 10 people to say about this man that would tell how good he was. He would always make you smile. He always supported all the clubs in our area. Hey y'all,
Just wanted to say this : you sure can tell how well liked a man is by going to his viewing ... I could not believe the turn out of just coon hunters as well as family and friends, it was wall to wall hunters. Some that I know drove hours just to pay their respects to this fine man on such short notice at that, all I could think is how Larry would have loved to have been there. I'm sure he knows ... Story : this is a story about Larry one night on a night hunt, I was handling his dog Topper ( Ole Top ). Before the hunt Larry had started talking to this young man around 17 yr old I think? hunting a Lil TW gyp, it was his first hunt. As luck would have it we drew out the young man, after 1st drop we were tied with his Lil gyp as top treed alone and his female had first on separate tree. We had about 30 some mins left to hunt all dogs was struck in when Top treed and as soon as he treed Jones coughs real loud while stepping towards me so he leans
Over to me and try's to whisper lol but Larry couldn't
Whisper lol so it was pretty loud and says don't tree Top. I look at him
With big ? About that time the young mans
Lil gyp trees and he trees her Jones then leans over and says Tree Top lol by this time I realized what he was doing....Cause Jones never said a word before while I was handling one of his dogs even if I called them
Wrong lol ! The young fella places his dog in his first hunt and is tickled to death !! But not as tickled as Larry was for him.. This was the kinda man Larry Jones was ....

Everybody knew "Jones". He was the spark that every club needed and the sport of coonhunting needed. He was an encourager and I never, ever saw Larry when he was not happy.....and that laugh. It was an honor to call him our friend and he surely has been missed at the local hunts due to his illness. It was so good to see him at the World Hunt & Show in Holmesville last year. Even though, his health was failing him, he managed to smile had have those hugs and encouraging words as always. He will be missed and our Sport has lost a great man. Our condolences to the Jones family. We will see you again our friend.

So sorry to hear of his passing. Didn't know him all that well. Just everytime I would meet him at any hunt he would have a big smile and something cheerful to say. Breed alot of good old blueticks.

Larry will be missed. He was a great man and loved his bluetick hounds. He was a credit to the hound world . I have hunted with ole Jones a few times, and boy could he tell some stories. I think he knew everyone in Southern Va. and Northern N.C. He will be missed by many.
