Looking for help rehoming a Coon Hound, need advice.

Hello all,

I have a half n' half bluetick/walker that I need to put in a good coon hunting home. My brother got him from a buddy of his thinking he was going to become some great coon hunter, however, once he realized it took time, energy, and effort, he abandoned the idea and the dog with my mom and dad. I'm a former K9 handler and stil train for Schutzhund and Personal Protection, but coon hunting is not in my bag of tricks.

This dog is about 21 inches and approx. 65 lbs. He is just shy of 2 years old and has the blood and drive of a coon hound. Now he just needs instruction to capitalize on it.

Any help any of you all could offer would be much appreciated.

You sir, have a Leopard Hound. Probably a full blood. Are you sure there are no papers that came with him?

RE: Leopard Hound

CORRECTION: Talked to my brother, he said he saw the parents and he's half bluetick and half black and tan. No leopard hound as far as I know.

Some Leopards are Blue Merle and some are Black and Tan
He is a Blue Merle Leopard

Dont really care but the Pic. you have posted is a leopard hound. not a cross as you describe. If your brother truly saw the parents and one was a bluetick and one black and tan in color its possible that the black and tan colored dog was a leopard hound which could have carried the genetics for the leopard spotted coloring on the dog in your Pic.

SOMEONE NOT FAMILIAR WITH ALL THE BREEDS COULD EASILY MISTAKE A BLUE MERLE LEOPARD FOR A BLUETICK, IT'S POSSIBLE THE MOTHER WAS A BLUE MERLE LEP AND THE FATHER WAS A B&T COLORED LEP AND THIS PERSON DIDN'T EVEN KNOW LEPS EXIST!!! JMO!!!
L.LYLE FROM S.C. HUNTS LEPS AND DON'T CARE ABOUT PAPERS, HE MIGHT TAKE IT!!!

Truth is you can't tell what blood is in a dog by looking at it. The only thing for sure is it needs to loose some weight.

Grady crossing a walker, bluetick, black and tan, or any combination of the three certainly would never produce a leopard spotted color pattern. there are only a handful of breeds which carry the merle color patern in their genetic makeup. You are correct though about the dog being to fat. LOL.

Well, it seems I've been well educated on the breedings of this little guy. Nonetheless, I'm still looking for advice on how to rehome him. Anyone know of a good coon-dog rescue?

If I were closer I would help...you should search amongst hog hunters tho, not coon hunters. Good luck.
