Hunting Virginia Mountains.

Anyone else had bad luck hunting here in Virginia? i have been a few nights and haven't hit much at all. Are they laying up or what?

i do better if i turn out after midnight. they might be moving early and then laying up.

Our weather really isn't helping matters. I think a couple of weeks ago when we were having those 80 dagree days they started their summer patterns(moving early). Then with this latest cold front they changed back. I don't think they know what they're doing. I guess when the weather gets right they will to.

During this time of the year, sow coons with kittens don't travel far from their dens. Once they get old enough to move about, your dogs will have a little better tracking condition. As of now, if your timing is right, you will hit a few good hard running boar coon tracks. I suggest you Google "the best time to hunt and fish" and select the Field & Stream site. Put your zip code in and it will tell you the best dates and times animals will be most active. It is not absolute but is right more times than wrong.
