-- How to score? (http://forums.ukcdogs.com/showthread.php?threadid=498519)
How to score?
Three dog cast. A and B strike 400 yards in front of us. A and B are boucing around in this general area opening. Dog C opens about 200 yards behind us. Dog A and B shutup and you can here them coming through the woods at a dead run. We are standing on a fire lane and they come right by us making a bee line to dog C. These dogs are not trailing they have one thing on their mind and that is to get to where dog C is opening. Should these dogs be minused for quiting a track?
no
i would say not. theres no way to know that its not the same coon. thats where common sense would come in (for me) good question though

You have to answer two simple questions to make this call.
First- Did the dog(s) quit their track? (Sounds like they did.)
Second- Did the dog(s) come in to the cast? ( Apparently not)
They must do both, quit AND come in before they can be minused in the situation above.

No. They are allowed to quit as many tracks as they want as long as they don't come in or the 8 doesn't get them.
The rule states they must quit the track AND COME IN. Otherwise no minus for quitting a track.

I guess the other question is what is the definition of "Coming in"? If I would have stuck my leg out I would have taken both dogs out.
I was judging this cast. The dogs were not minused. One guy wanted me to minus his dog the other felt they shouldn't be minused.
So long as they dont stop and just stand there then no they shouldn't be minused. It may not seem right but its very very ovbious when a dog quits a track and comes in. So many people are so minus happy in these hunts anymore, unless of course its their dog taking the licking.

To me coming in is coming in and standing around...quitting a track and coming in and saying " i am done hunting"...
Seen my buddies dog get minused for that one nite...was struck and trailing and about got hung by a old barb wire fence...we were within 25yds standing there..we all seen and heard the dog yipping...he came over...stood for maybe 5 seconds...judge said he is minused and before he finished the sentence the dog was gone on trail.....he was hurting and we were close...tough break...he did come in and did quit the track...for a brief moment...

I want to get a feel for how people think. It makes judging a cast a little easier.
I am not minus happy but I do want to judge based on what the dog is doing.
Just like Trevor he interprets the coming in rule as stopping and standing there. I have read and re-read and it does not say stop and stand there.
More club members said minus than not. But a lot of these guys are saying this because none of us want that type of dog. But here we go again we shouldn't judge based on what type dog we like we should judge based on the rules. I think this rule can be interpreted several different ways.
Also the guy that didn't want to minus them also had a little trouble minusing his dog on tree. He packed that tree several hundred yards before he was convinced he was moving. He did finally agree he was moving. It was funny!
I like to give people an opportunity to make the call on their dog. You learn a lot about the person.
May the best dog win!
