New handler needing help

My dog buster appears to be a heck of coon dog. I have had him out around 12 nights in the last month. Seems every night is something different. Our first hunt together he ran and ran and ran the let out around 780 yards then hit a den tree about 1000 yards. Stuck on tree till I arrived. Second time he hit a track about 200 and treed in a hemlock. Couldn't see anything. Next couple of nights not a peep from him in an hour or so. Then he tracked a bobcat and would tree run tree run tree run tree run. All the places I hunt are places very few would go. Bluffs steep mountains rivers 1O miles out in nowhere thick and full of rattlers. One time I dropped him on a feeder and he did so much better but seemed confused about the tree and wanted to pull as if he wasn't sure on the tree but the other two dogs seemed sure of it. (first time with other dogs). Few more good nights and then we went to Gods Country and within 100 yards hit a track ran for 400 or so yards. Man I thought he was on it. All of a sudden he quit and came back. Did it twice that night and he is laid up still. Don't know what to do
