What is the most track driveing good nosed walker line out there? I don't care if they tree or not. Just considering the tracking what is the best?
Come you old guys that remember what a tracking dog was.

...............

..most House bred hounds.........

Clover, Skuna River, Harry bred my opinion, ever since I was a kid thats all my dad and his coon hunting buddies would say could drive a track. I own a 4 year old off of Skuna River Bark and he does very well on driving a hot or cold track and having the coon. I'm happy to own a Skuna River bred dog. Other guys may have a different opinion on that.

My humble opinion....

House bred dogs specifically Swamp dog's. I have also seen a direct son of Harry that was a real track dog.

tracking

it would be hard to say id think, because most folks dont want a dog to trail to much anymore, its all about getting treed quick.
the older hounds had better noses id say and would work a track better. From what iv seen in the past few years, they got to much bird dog in them, i,e. they run with there heads up and into the wind looking for a coon already up a tree. and bye that they run past a lot off game........

I think people attribute "track drivers" to being a good trait. Most ground pounders in reality are pitiful track dogs. Good track dogs do not ever bog down on tracks, they push a coon up a tree and they do it fast.

That isn't the question though. What line do you think can move a track from cold to tree in a hurry?

I'm not a believer in "lines" of dogs. Never have been never will be. You can get a good dog from no name dogs if you put the time into them. Sure many don't make it but that goes for any breed and any line.

I totaly agree. I always say that there is a difference between a dog that can follow a track and one that can DRIVE a track. When I say I want a track dog I mean I want an authoritative, heads up, one way, never bog, mr. coon had better lift his head and tuck his tail, run to catch not follow to a tree track dog. I am always looking for that kind of dog. One that runs a coon like most dogs run a deer. I don't want to wait all night either if a dog starts a track I want them to either catch or tree that rascal in fifteen minutes or less five minutes would be even better. That is the kind of track dogs I am talking about.

Dreamin

if you think a good track dog will never bog on a track your dreaming! they do one of two things they move the track they start to a tree or if they come to the point they cant move it they find somthing better. that is the problem with the tighter mouthed hounds of today, i,e, barking every 75 or 100 yards you dont really know if hes not moving what he started or not, your just guessing if he heads in a strait lines hes on the same coon all along, and you creddit him for being a good track dog and all hes done is some lazy work........ jmop

Yep I would agree. Most dogs that tree so fast does not track a step. They fly threw the woods till they hit a hot trail and work it to a tree with out tracking at all.

Grady, if you are just wanting track dogs, I's suggest Julys, but if you're wanting track dogs that tree, come go a huntin'. Tom

Simple answer since you said walker and that you dont care if they tree would be to get a running walker, way faster track dogs than any line of treeing walker. Most coonhunters have never even seen a real fast trackdog.

LOL........Tom it is funny you said that. I ask Charles Silvey while he was here this morning. He said July or Trigg and I do want to go hunting with you. I am just trying to get a night that no one else is going with me. I went to Clairmore last weak end and I am going to Tahlequah this weak end. But if you go Thursday night after 8 I can make it. If not maybe next weak end.

Can you breed a July to a treeing walker and it still be regestered as a UKC PR or would you have to single regester.

You are exactly right, I giggle a little when I hear a coon hunter talk about cold nosed track drivers.

That is the reason for the question. Since the treeing walker was a reject of the running walker and now we have to much tree in them. I thought the running walker or the closest treeing walker to the running walker might be the well we may need to go back to.

I have owned some really fast track dogs. The fastest all had yellow papers, meaning they had single registered dogs in 3 generations. I have considered for some time going back to a running trigg that would tree some to get more of it back.

I don't know anything about the running dogs but I have heard the triggs would tree some.
