Still Mouth Question?????

Got a young dog here that I have been huntin for a while now. He has always been open on track and just within the last month or so he has gone still mouth on me. I don't mean he tightened up quite a bit, I mean completely still mouth. When you hear him open up, it's a locate. I was liking it at first because when he started this his accuracy went way up and the percent of dens went way down, almost no slicks. I've only hunted him with other dogs a handful of times and wonder if that could have had anything to do with it. I've seen other peoples dogs do something similar to this, and it seems to stick. I doubt I will change the way/style that I hunt him, but my question is have you ever seen a dog come out of this and what changed that could have caused it?

Are you sure the dog isn't just running around checking trees?

Yes, I'm sure that he's not just checking trees, because I tell on the garmin when he hits a track.

SMART DOG.. I have seen it happen a couple times through the years. usually after they catch a coon or two on the ground. Never saw one go back to being open on track once they figure out they can sneak up. Good friend had one that was an open track dog till he was 4 yrs. old. He caught a couple on the ground during the summer when the Kits. were down and was silent for the rest of his life.

Like was said i have seen it when they catch one....almost like they know if they open that the coon gets a head start...usually they come out of it though from what ive seen....

My current pup is super accurate and rarely on a den...he isnt a quock strike dog...if i am close i can hear him snorting like a pig running a traxk silent...also had him open 1 or 2 times or not at all and located and tree with a coon...might not get 100 strike points...but he is likely gunna be treed with a coon....i can live with that...he is just under a year so lots of changes to come i am sure....can hunt a mouthy quick strike dog in the same woods on the same coon and see many many more dens....ive done it for years....i absolutely love walking in and seeing a coon opposed to a den!

If my dog opens he already got the track warmed up and its a good hot race...
