Do back-up handlers have to go to tree or can they stay at truck? How sure of your answer are you?

If they are truly your back up then they need to go everywhere you go , so in case you become sick on the way to a tree or are unable to handle your calling of the dog so they can take over, they would do you no good at the truck and that I am sure of. If they stay at the truck I would believe that they have withdrawn them selfs from being your back up as soon as dogs are cast and the cast leaves them.

Mr. Meyer I sure do. Most don't have a clue about the rules. If they did I'm sure they would post. I was at a RQE and 95%+ don't know the rules.

I looked in the on-line book here and found where you could have a back up take over but couldn't find about it in a RQE. Maybe need an Advisor for that.

RQE's are run under NtCh rules, other than that they are the standard UKC event rules.Page 99 rule 3. You won't encounter any difference in the rules till you get to the Zones at which point you can read page 101 rule 13 for the special backup handler rules from the Zones on to the Finals.
And both Allen and Todd have explained this on here several times. Do a search.

I have spoken with 7 MOH and only one has been right. I will say only about 2% of the people I have spoken with know the TRUE answer.

Just do a search for backup handler and you will find information you need. Normal spectator rules apply to RQE's ( 2 per handler) those spectators may stay at the truck so long as their isn't a Garmin left there. The backup handler only comes into effect at a Zone or the World Final.

3. RULES FOR RUNNING THE EVENTS: UKC Nite
Hunt Honor Rules, as they apply to Nite Champions
and Grand Nite Champions (even though Registered
dogs are hunting), in effect for the year the event is
run, with special revisions as required.

*13. No spectators will be allowed on any casts of
the Zone Semifinals or Finals. Each handler may
select one back-up handler in case of illness or
injury to the original handler. Once the back-up handler
takes over, the original handler cannot take
back over for the balance of the particular cast.
Original handler can handle dog on subsequent
casts. The back-up handler cannot by word of
mouth or action assist original handler or dog in any
way. Judges can order the removal of a back-up
handler from the cast and the woods for any reason.

If so, where can I find the part about all back-up handlers must go to tree at finals? At what point does the it change? Where is it in writing?

Mr Tavares, I think you know this but at the Zones and Finals they always issue the backup handler instructions when they call out the casts. At the Zones backups can walk or stay at the truck. At the Finals backups must walk with cast on Thursday and I believe they must stay at truck on Friday and Saturday nights. I'm not positive about Friday and Saturday because I have never gotten that far but I think that is right.

But, I did get a little hosed during the hunt. It seems I'm the only one that can hear my dog tree. No one else could hear her or tell she was treed. One did hear hear but he wasn't the judge nor was hesure she was treed. I was for over 30 minutes. When we got where the other two could hear theirs we had to split the tree points... after my 125-. lol

WORLD HUNT

THE SAT CAST THE HUNTER TAKES A BACKUP HANDLER THEY STAY AT THE TRUCK WITH THE MASTER OF HOUNDS IF THEY HAVE TO TAKE OVER THE HANDLER THEN WILL STAY AT TRUCK THE ONLY ONES TO GO ON THE FINAL CAST IS THE JUDGES THE GUIDE AND THE FOUR HANDLERS AND ONE BACKUP HANDLER FOR EACH DOG AND THREE MASTER OF HOUNDS AND ONE PERSON FROM UKC FIELD OPERATIONS THE YEARS THAT I HAVE BEEN APART THE RULES ARE TOLD TO THE CSAT WHEN THEY ARE ASSEMBLED AND I NEVER HAVE HEARD ANYONE GRIPE .

KT, regular spectator rules apply at a RQE. Jim, has the correct response when it comes to the zones and finals. Back-up handler/spectator instructions are read off by the Master of Hounds prior to calling the casts.
