Hunting in lots of water

Just wondering who hunts around the most water, and what breed of dogs you use and what crosses make the best water dogs, we hear alot about tree dogs and track dogs but what and who are the best dogs in water youv ever seen ?

does the Atlantic Ocean qualify. Walker dogs is what we hunt, and they do real well around those marshes.

I think it is the individual dog and not certain lines or breeds. I've had dogs that excelled in water and had a littermate that didn't.

I hunt right on the marshes of the altantic and swamps we have around here don't really think bred are as important as people think it is I think it in how they were brought up

I respectfully dissagree about how a dog is brought in it pertaining to water.I feel a good water dog is born not man made.Some will look for a hill just to leave the water/swamp. I think your best water dogs also are born with what I refer to as...COONSENSE or HUNT SMART,THESE SAME DOGS MAY BE SORRY AT LAY-UPS BUT THEY WILL STRING DOGS OUT 200/300 YARDS BEHIND ON A FULL MOON BEAVERPOND COON ABOUT 20 DEGREES IN WAIST DEEP WATER.I got 2 littermates here,The female is as good as a water dog as I have owned,THE COLDER,DEEPER TOUGHER COONS SHE LOOKS BETTER .Her brother is almost worthless when the water gets over his feet.He will tree more coons than she will but you dont get much track enjoyment from him.She will run as she comes to them,He will find an easier coon to tree....ON THE HILL.You can help a dog with layups but I dont think you can help a dog be a better water dog...jmo

I hunt the river bottoms in east central Arkansas along the White and Cache rivers and you ALWAYS have water to deal with and it"s so bad right now and has been most of the winter that u have to carefully find a place to turn loose or else !!! LOL A man wants to see his dog go put him in water and we will see ! LOL I have hunted these bottoms for 35 plus years and if i was hunting B and T it would be Super Sting , ACE bloodlines, Hunting Blueticks it would be Uchtman hands down ! Just my thoughts but it has to do with the individual dog and what they are hunted and trained around !!!

Well i may rock the boat alil but oh well a real coondog dont care what or where they gotta go to tree a coon thats all they have on there mind is to tree that coon...i think with training if the dog you are hunting pups with will go ...the pup is most likely going to follow may take a few times but it will go soon or later

About sums it up never met James dont know him from Adam but u can tell he coon hunts!!!!

some are born better than others but if they cant learn to get good at it and most i have tried to get better at it got lots better then i have no use for them.... mine are practicly boen in a beaver pond and play in it all summer long before they get hunted but i have very little trouble getting a dog to adapt to water wherever it came from if its any good at all on dry land

we hunt probably the worst place a man could as for. always in water a least 2 ft. deep and thin coons. we hunt yadkin river dogs and they can get it done right in real deep water. try one..

Marshes

I too hunt these salt/brackish water swamps and marshes and i believe if you got a dog that is crazy over coon,he will do well anywhere.I bought a dog 6 or 7 yrs. back from a fella from the mountains of W.V. And I was concerned about how well he would perform down here.Didn't slow him down a bit.I truly believe if the dog is coon-crazy,he can do well anywhere.
