Stop a dog from coming back to other dogs tracking

Can you stop a dog from going to other dogs while they are tracking. Got a dog that goes out and splits off from them but if the other dog barks on track sometimes he comes back to them and sometimes he doesn't. I would like to stop him from coming back at all any suggestions. Thanks

Hunt him alone more. Only suggestion I would have.

A friend I hunt with a lot and has had good success training his young hounds is purty adamant about this subject. He uses his Garmin GPS in combination with the TriTronics to teach them not to ever run to another dog for any reason period. I haven't done it myself but my friend has proven it can work very well.

Sounds as if your dog has big ears you can try with a shock collar I have never seen it do much good

its not a bad thing for a dog to back another dog like that as long as the other dog is right. but if you wanna stop it hunt them alone more. i like my dog to back another dog but she doesnt do that much so i walk one way to get her and the other guys walk the other way to there dogs.haha when you pleasure hunt like i do you want a dog that will back others. in comp hunts i could see why you wouldnt.

The dog is 15 months old and when he comes back to the other dogs he has never started his own track. He is usually just in deeper than the other dogs and come back to them after they strike up on track sometimes. Sometimes he goes on and doesn't pay attention but has only done this a handful of times. He will tree a coon every time you take him out by himself. I just don't like the fact that sometimes he will get into the wood about 300 hundred yards and another dog will strike and track for a bit around 150 yards and he will come back to check that dog sometimes. I wish he would just keep going and find his own track.

Turn a dog and let it get treed.... send a buddy with a big green switch into the tree. Turn the dog that me-too's into it. If it comes in wear his ass out and make him go get treed by himself. If you do this a couple of times you will be able to start working the dog into using the shock collar and garmin instead of needing 2 people.

This is a tried and true method. I have personally broke dogs using it and I know a lot of the top handlers in the country use the same exact method.

Ha I can't shoot a dog that will tree a coon by himself every drop of the night at 15 months. His only fault is what I described earlier.

i have seen some dogs hunted by themselves to much believe it or not. sometimes when a dog is hunted by themselves they never learn to handle pressure because it has never had to hold under pressure. Knocking more coon out has nothing to do with the dog holding or not. backing another dog is NOT a bad thing, but leaving his tree is. hunt the dog alone until he starts treeing and holding, then put him with ONE other dog. No way to learn to handle pressure unless you add pressure. best of luck

Boys those big ears are bred into em.Their either independent or their not.You can't put to much emphasis on a 15 month old hound either.If mine is not struck in either and hears another dog open he will break his neck to get em and he is 16 months old and can tree em by himself and split,hold pressure or whatever but his got BIG ears just like 90% of all the dogs.Just keep doing what your doing.Hunt him and correct him of anything He is doing wrong and with age those big ears might disappear.Be careful of beating and shocking that young dog to death cause it could come back and bite you in butt..Just give him some time to mature.

I have seen more than one that was "broke " from covering that would just slink aroud not knowing what to do if a faster dog beat it to the tree.

Some dogs can be tweaked, but some are wired the way they are.
