my dogs get the vaccine. I have had a good dog go down due to lymes but since then, I vaccinate them. I heard the tick must be attached for 48 hours. The flea and tick stuff I use kills them dead when they bite,....so it may be over kill. I guess you can't be too save.
What I have read about it was it does more harm than good
jaws, that's what I've seen too.

I've given mine Lyme shots ever since I had a dog that got Lymes and I can tell you that the disease is a lot worse then the shot. The only problem I've had is one of my dogs swells from the shot. Many dogs are never the same again after having Lymes plus they can relapse without being bitten again.

I wouldn't wish lymes on any dog. My dog sug got bit when she was just over 1 yrs age. Put her on the antibiotics everything was good now here it is 3 yrs later she has a litter of pups n very next day lymes sets in. Worst timing ever. Once they contract it they'll have it forever. Might show up might not but it attacks they're joints and it's just miserable for them. I getem the vaccine. All of em

i give it to my dogs, never had any bad things come of it. with the way ticks are around here i wouldnt go with out it. i also use the drops on them and never have any problem with ticks being on them.
I use insecticide cattle ear tags. The ones I got now are 10% permethin tags. Used them the last couple of years on dogs collar. Seem to work . I also give Lyme shots.I find a dead tick on the dog once in a while.

What are the negative side effects of the vaccine?? Hard on the kidneys?? Frontline doesn't seem to be working as well as it did in the past. My vet told me that K9 Advantix is what works best on her farm.

Steffan, what I've read says that it actually can inflict them with a strain that won't respond to the antibiotics.

My
daughters Jack Russell female had a bad reaction to the shot 2 years ago.. Just a few months ago vet said she has lymes ??? I am not convinced the shot is a good idea.. Tick prevention is probably better...

I believe once a dog is vaccinated they will always test positive for lymes.
I agree that tick prevention is very important, but I have yet to find anything that keeps them off 100%.

My vet says the vaccine is only about 75% effective at best..I have him give my hounds the shot and every year they test positive. In spite of testing positive, they have yet to come up with lyme..The vet told me the test does not mean they have lyme, just that they were exposed to it. I stopped the test and vaccine..I've been using Pet Amour which I buy at Walmart for about a year and I haven't pulled one tick of my hound..As most know the diease is named after Lyme, Ct. so that tells you we have plenty of ticks year round..I hve friends that have Lyme and it isn't something you take lightly..

Thank you Red that website answered some ?'s i have. I have a female that has lyme's disease. When, she was diagnosised her lyme levels where off the chart. My vet tried to save a choc. lab that had it, but it died. Its lyme level was 350, my female's levels where 650. The only sign she show'd was stiffness (soreness), alittle swelling and limping (not putting weight) on her right ankle . Other than that she hunted and looked fine. My vet has been treating her for 1 1/2 yrs. He still can't believe she is still alive. I am just glad i took her to the Vet, when i did. She is doing good, hunting as hard as ever. You can't even tell she has it.
