After Market Antenna Question ?????

Has anyone ever had a aftermarket antenna on a dc 30 or 40 work fine for 20 mins or so and then lose signal and it still show the distance on the hand held but not show tracks? The ? mark is there too. Its like the unit is picking it up but not fully communicating. If so could yall give a a possible solution???????????
