Let's See Your 2012 Gobblers !!

It's time. Let's hear some short details about your hunts and take a look at those birds.

With this weird weather, I think our chicks are gonna be hatched before the Michigan season even opens up!

Good luck everyone. Be safe.

Crazy Begining and Ending...

Turkeys worked great. I happened to get the limit in three days. I am just calling for friends now, and I have witnessed three more dying..

Best opening week of turkey season I have ever seen in thirty something years...

Hens are already setting here, it went straight from fall to spring, they're so early the first week of season will like the end of a regular season, dogwoods are in full bloom and they usually bloom around april 15th here....i even found morrell mushrooms today, hopefully we can whack them the first week

Around here the people that are usually the first week warriors, go and never kill anything have been killing birds.

A pile of turkeys have been killed in these parts this year...

Heard 6 this morning BUT they will be umpteen hundred folks out there tomorrow. Just so happens I live right down the rd from about 28,000ac of public land slap eat up with turkeys. Bad thing is its close to urban sprawl. Had the most hunters signed in of any wma in the state the last 2 yrs. I'll give em a whirl though.

I sat on the cabin steps on Monday morning and listened to a gobbler on the ridge in front of the cabin answering a rooster crowing up the road. I gave him an owl hoot and he answered. I waited a few and offered a few clucks and a putt or two with my mouth and he answered strong. Another answered further up the ridge. We had a lengthy conversation and he moved closer. The neighbor's dog up the road barked and that shut him down. I heard him again this morning just after daylight. I wonder if I can call him down in the yard? That way I won't have to put my boots on when I introduce him to my old Model 12.

got a double this morning

Me and the wife went this morning and was'nt expecting much with the cooler weather(42degrees) but it turned out to be one of my best mornings ever. I called in 2 nice toms right after daylight, they came in running and the wife could'nt get a shot. Then we moved and set up again. We hardly had time to setup and the BIG boy came running in ready to destroy the decoy and my wife ruined his day. Then we make one more setup and had 2 gobblers leave there hen like they were on a string and I got mine. The birds around here have been henned up lately but I think a lot hens are already on the nest now due to the hot spring because this morning it seemed like every gobbler was available and looking for love. We heard at least 6-7 different toms and my wife got her first bird and he was a stud.
Her bird had a 11 in. beard, 1 3/8" spurs and weighed almost 21 lbs.! We dropped him off at the taxidermist for a full body mount.
My bird weighed 16lbs, 11in. beard and 1 1/8 spurs.
