Scratch, minus, or delete?

Nite champion cast. Dogs A, B, C, and D all declared treed. Cast arrives to tree to find only A, B, and C there. Dog D come in but never shows tree. Judge says to handle dog D. Possum is found. Dogs A, B, and C are scratch. What happens to dog D? Remember, dog D comes in to cast after cast arrives at the tree and never shows tree. Judge makes handler handle dog D.

What if it was a coon instead of a possum? Does your logic still hold true? Does dog D get plus points in that situation?

None of this happend to me. I'm just asking because this is something that I have seen scored 100 different ways.

Jim, what rules would back that up? What you said is how I have always scored it when this situation comes up. Nine times out of ten someone gets ticked off and gets their feelings hurt.

Lets assume dog D was pitched for 25 points. It was unknown if he ever opened his mouth at all.

dog d in they case of coon is minus for leaveing the tree still bad call from handler

Posted by Bill(Chew) on 03-18-2012 04:22 AM:

Dogs a, b, & c are scratched. Dog d gets minus tree points and continue to hunt. Even though dog d was declared treed he could have been on another tree and came in to the cast. Unless he was seen AT THE TREE WHEN THE CAST ARRIVED, he gets the benifit of doubt.

if dog D is not the judge's dog, i bet 99% of the time he's getting scratched.

DOG D IS FIXIN TO GO HUNTIN BY HIMSELF,HE WAS NOT THERE TREEING WHEN CAST GOT THERE AND THATS THE BREAKS.....THE OTHER 3 ARE HEADED TO THE TRUCK.....

You can't score based on what you THINK happened you can only score on what was seen, why do these questions get so many different answers? Read the rules.

NO ONE CAN STAND TO BE MINUSED OUR SCRATCHED.....I THINK MOST KNOW THE ANSWER BUT SOME TRY TO TWIST IT AROUND SO THAT THEY BENEFIT .....

The only way it can be scored if you go by the rules. On a different note, it doesn't matter if the dog D comes into the tree and barks if the judge beats it to the tree. If dog D would have been faster to the tree or the judge slower all four could have called it an early night.

I will share funny one about rules on a possum and laugh I had
RQE we all struck in dogs come treed 3 treed mine locating but not rolling over I had my ideas on what was there tree dies 3 dogs treed me not treed go to tree score 3 on possum tree me through the world judge says no need for you to tree your scratched
I said scratched for what he said under new Ukc sportsmanship rule that I was scratched because at one time my dog was there barking with theirs
I had to gather my junk go to the club house and go before moh of course I went back hunting
Ol man judging said sorry I just know that's how they got me other night I could not believe he fell for it and was so convinced he argued over it
It's amazing the rules that get made up

ALL DOGS WERE CALLED TREED, YOU HAVE TO DO SOMETHING WITH THE TREE POINTS!!! WHETHER YOU FOUND HIM ON A TREE OR NOT, THE HANDLER CALLED HIM TREED!!!

D is still in the ballgame. I've seen it happen once. Most wanted to scratch D but the judge knew what was going on and let D hunt.

Well, I will tell you guys something....this actually happend at an RQE last night. Dog D wasn't at the tree when the cast arrived. The judge said "dog D isn't here, so he's minused." Then, the handler of dog D sees him about 100 yards away coming in. He comes in to the hander. The judge sees the dog and instructs the handler to handle him. Shinning has not started at this point. After shinning and possum found, the first three dogs are scratched and they want to scratch dog D. Handler D questions it. They take a vote and its 3 to 1 on scratching the dog. The go back to the clubhouse. They explain it to the MOH who then asked the question "did ya'll vote on it in the woods? If so, I have to go with the vote". So, all four go to the house including dog D (who was winning the cast and would have had an hour to go back out to hun).

This just goes to show you that UKC rules are vague, even though most experienced competition hunters know the rules. Whats more important is that not all MOH's know the rules. I've seen many MOH's make the wrong call. You would think that at a RQE, the MOH that is used would be proficient enough to be able to handle anything that comes up.
