Bench show?

How do you gait a dog in a bench show? Do you just trot them or walk? Do you have to train them to gait the rite way or do they just do it on there own? Also how do keep there head still after you have set them up on the bench or does that matter?

practice!!!
you are supposed to walk them to show off their stride and the reach of gait.
if you walk a dog, it will not look right. their rear could be high or something.
if you trot or "move the dog out" and let them extend their legs to their max stride, they will move better....and also show any flaws the dog has...high in hips, crossing over, etc
some handlers "play" with the gait to make the dog look better and to fool the eye to make them appear correct, if possible. gaiting is the one area that it is hard to make corrections.

head - practice. some dogs are hard headed and require more patience!!!

yes it matter. if they are moving around, the bsj cannot get a correct look at them. if the head is looking up for rain, it messes up the neckline and bsj cannot get a correct look at the neck assembly.

watch the dog in its natural movement and when it stops. that is usually the best indicator of how the dog should be set up.
