Pups runnin Free

Is letting my 6 month old pups run free in the backyard a bad idea? Will they pick up an bad behaviors from this or is it a good idea so they can have plenty of "playtime" and excercise.

mine, usually run loose from 2mo. till they make it to the neighbors house (1.5 miles). it's still another 3.5 miles to the blacktop but i don't like them bugging the neighbor.
